What are people's experiences with middle school kids and having one to one Ipads in school with on-task behavior? Are there benefits to having an iPad if so what and if not what could we use in place?

Welcome to the group. There are many reasons to allow kids to use all of the educational opportunities in school and home on the IPad. Technology is the way of the future and can assist children with not on learning but can also help struggling learners( Speech to text, text to speech, highlighting text as it reads, etc..)

Now with that being said it is very important the there are controls. There are Apps ( Go Guardian, Bark , etc) that allow the school and parent follow and control content that is seen and used.

There are many educational games, videos and even allowing them to create and turn in work ( Google Docs, Sheets, etc)

It will be important for them to gain the skills for the digital world in the future.

Hope this helps...

All of the schools are going more towards technology and less towards text books. It saves the school money and prepares the student for the. That being said they need to have controls on it because kids with ADHD, and other students,i tend to drift off to other places on an iPad if it is not locked in class.
