Hi everyone! My 12 DD, just finished a 12 day SOAR camp. If you are not familiar with SOAR, they are a camp (and school) exclusively for ADHD kids. It's not a therapeutic camp, but the counselors are mostly college age and trained to deal with ADHD kids. They camp, horseback ride, ropes, camp, etc. Thru all these activities they coach em how to get along, work together. Caveat: it's super expensive.

Anyway!!!!... She loved it. She's so excited about the two new friends she made. They are making plans to go a longer camp next year. The counselor gushed about my daughter and how adventurous and fun she was. This is the kid, I could not pry away from her book to go on a short walk. Friends are also in short supply. So glad, she went somewhere, where she was not outcast for being different. She setup a tent, like 8 times! I mean wow. I don't have full scoop, bc my husband picked her up. If you want more details, feel free to message me.

Yeah! Such a great experience so glad you found this camp and allowed her to go. We struggle with knowing he needs to be more independent but what are the consequences..

Thanks for sharing!

That's great to hear the camp was a success! You should take her out camping so she can use her skills to set up the tent for the family.

Love it! So happy to hear she enjoyed her experience!! I’m hoping one day to send my son to something like that.

I went to a CHADD meet and they had the founder come out and talk about SOAR. He had kids with ADHD. He was awesome and the program sounded legit. Thanks for sharing!

That's cool.

Oh, that's so great! I've seen them online and offered to my son (14), but he says NO to all camps. Any advice for getting them to go?

Hum. Mine wanted to go, get away from us because we are nothing less than the prison wardens in her mind. Lol. I was fine with that, since I really just want her to find joy, and if she has to use me as an excuse and motivation to go then so be it. The 'hook' was the horse packing. They get their own horse, fitted to their personality. Other than that, they just did cool stuff. If u call soar and ask them how to sell your son, I'm sure they would have ideas. Talk to Brittany. She is so helpful. There are pics and videos on Facebook too. Read the schedule and see what your son might like?

Ha! Its right down the road from you compared to where we came from. We went from Hawaii to NC! Now we did tack on a trip to see the cousins in Raleigh and grandma in Ohio which we do every year every anyway. I work for an airline so the flights are nearly free but it did take time, vaca hours. And the camp is crazy expensive.

Hello. I am thinking about sending my 13 year old daughter to SOAR summer camp but am concerned about her being with older boys (age range for camp says 12-17). Any thoughts? Thank you
