My little boy's teacher and principal treat him differently because of his ADHD

I need some advice because I am sad and very disappointed in the way my little boy's teacher and principal they don't treat him very well, they treat him as if he does everything wrong as if he's a trouble maker and he's not he is a sweetheart. Just recently I had dropped him off at school and he was not wanting me to leave he was crying and very upset the principal comes out and very rudely says that is enough you need to knock it off and let your mom go home. Every time the resource management and I have a meeting I try to help them out and give them resources so they can better understand to about what he has, they ignore my input, they don't here me. For example I explained to them that he needs an IEP the principal says we are not going to issue one there to expensive. I take there advice on how to help him with his ADHD, when he does work or gets frustrated because of the ADHD and the next minute they are slamming me about the ways they told me to help him. I don't think they want to deal with a child that has this. It breaks my heart to see him struggling in school and the fact that the school doesn't seem to want to help him when he's there that they think he is a monster. Any advice on what to do?

Ask about a 504 plan. It's similar to an iep. You can write a formal letter to the coordinator at the school explaining why your child needs it...possibly get a recommendation from his doctor.

I know what your goi g through. I have had problems with my grandsons school. They take him out of class every time he does so.ething wrong. I tried explaining what works best for his behavior. They didnt listen. School is almost out so I pulled him out of school till next year.

Your school shouldn't refuse to do an iep for him.

You could also look into the school district policy with regards to asking for a 504 or IEP. My understanding is that the principal can't refuse to evaluate your child if you make a formal request for a 504 or an IEP. The school has 60 days from the time of your formal request to get that evaluation done.

An evaluation doesn't guarantee that your child will get an IEP, but by law the school has to do an evaluation. Here is a link with an example letter: understandingspecialeducati...

You can increase your chances of getting an IEP by doing your own homework by having a doctor's recommendation, an independent neuropsycological evaluation, your own file of your child's schoolwork and report cards that show evidence of his ADHD.

You can also look in your community for an advocate to attend the 504 or IEP meeting with you. For example, some states have parenting centers with individuals who are familiar with the IEP process and are willing to come to the meeting. If your child has a counselor, ask if he or she would come to explain the diagnosis and how the teacher can help in the classroom.

For some reason, parents aren't always taken as seriously as other professionals when they attend the meetings. We can get emotional and our explanations discounted even though what we say is the same.

Good luck!
