In the 1960s the discovery of mercury in fish led to a condemnation of eating fish during pregnancy. Extreme precautions were issued as there was little research on it. 50 years later there is a lot of evidence that the benefits of eating fish far Far FAR outweigh any risk from mercury. The benefits of Omega-3 from fish have far reaching benefits on many health aspects. As for ADHD here is a story on recent research on Omega-3 and diet. It should be noted that it is the balance (ratio) of the Omegas, particularly 3-6-9, that counts. We get way too much 6 from soy and corn and processed foods. 9 is another good Omega primarily from olive oil. Anyone using Fish oil pills needs to be aware of how much real Omega 3 is in the oil in the form of EPA and DHA. A minimum of 1000 mg a day of EPA/DHA is recommended. Most 1000mg pills of fish oil only have 350 mg of EPA/HDA. Eat real fish twice a week - NOT fried in vegetable oil - or you cancel out the 3s with the added 6s.
