Who do you take your child to see for their medicine? Neuro? Peds psychiatrist? Pediatrician? Is one better than the other ?
Medication & Doctors: Who do you take... - CHADD's ADHD Pare...
Medication & Doctors
We started with his pediatrician and did get eye results from medications and as soon as we changed to a child psychiatric. She is amazing and quickly read his personality and give him medication that has changed our lives. When I needed late afternoon medication she called and discussed it and she agreed his medication wears off and he needs a second dose. Looking back I wish I would have started with her when he was younger. But can't look back I just suggest to parent to see a Specialist.
Good luck
We started discussions with our son's pediatrician after concerns of our own as well as from child's school. Meanwhile we had also started play therapy sessions with a child psychologist. This psychologist reiterated the same concerns that we saw. With this we were eventually referred to a child psychiatrist for further evaluation, which led to a diagnosis and our decision to medicate.
Depends on the doctor's expertise with ADHD and its treatment. Pediatrician should be able to handle uncomplicated case. Otherwise, a specialist (psychiatry, neurology, developmental pediatrics) is the option, depending on who is expert in your area.
My son sees a child psychiatrist, a special child psychologist and a special psychiatric nurse who all work together in a hospital clinic. It is such a relief!
