I AM NEW HERE. ADVICE NEEDED FOR SUITABLE SUPPLEMENTATION

I cannot find a psychologist or psychiatrist for my 8-yr old son. All doctors around me prescribe ritalin or adderal or the like. I prefer the natural remedies and I believe they can help. All I want is NAMES of the best reviewed supplements (multivitamins+ omega+ nootropics) that are REALLY work and suitable for this age? HELP IS APPRECIATED.

Prolang4- most supplements are not approved by the FDA (food and drug Admin) these are licensed doctors and the drugs they dispence have to be researched and tried under the FDA. So they are not interested in things that are not studied.

I would recommened more of a homiopath doctor, they could help.

Good luck in finding the answers you need.

You should look for an integrative medicine psychiatrist. The supervising psychiatrist we saw said they have seen great advances with treating kids with high levels of different vitamins. It does have to be supervised by a psychiatrist because they are large doses and they have to tell you how much. I can tell you it was recommended our son take 2,000 mg of omega 3 and the brand is Nordic naturals. It was also recommended he take 200 to 400 mg of magnesium glycinate.

of course I have to see an integrative medicine psychiatrist but it seems that most of them are not "integrative"; they are traditional psychiatrists!. Actually,, I give my son 1200 mg of omega. as you said, i do not like to give my son too much vitamins, they will do him no good if unnecessary. your reply is highly appreciated.

For the omega 3 I buy Nordic naturals 2x minis. That was the brand recommended by the psychiatrist. It seems to be the highest dosage I can find in that brand in the minis. The regular size are way too big for him to swallow. I buy it on amazon as their price seems better than at Sprouts. The magnesium glycinate I also bought through amazon. It isn’t randomly available from what I have seen. They may have it at a health store or specialty grocery.

do you know the dosage or the company of magnesium supplement you bought? Do you believe that these help?

I bought pure magnesium from pure micronutrients. Dr recommended between 200 to 400 mg. The one I bought is 200 mg. It has helped with him having bowel movements, which he was having issues with. It is also supposed to help with sleep at night and he has been sleeping pretty well. Magnesium glycinate is supposed to be the bed tolerated and has many benefits. If your child doesn’t Ike taking pills you could also fix the CALM magnesium drink which comes in several flavors. I believe 2 tsp is 325 mg if you go that route.

I can’t say that I see any change, but my son is on both Focalin XR and Guanfacine ER...so it would be hard for me to say. I will be checking on immunotherapy treatment for ADHD, but we don’t have an appt with the psychiatrist until next week.

I also recommend a homeopathic doctor. We are one that is an MD but uses homeopathic remedies. A functional medicine doctor might also b an option. Good luck!

My son uses Vayarin, which is a medical food that is high dosage of Omega-Fatty acids, lipids and has worked well for him. He is 8 yrs. old and only takes a 1/2 of a wellbutrin 1x daily as we pulled him off of the stimulants such as adderall and ritalin as they made him extremely agitated, volatile and aggressive.

how did it go? do you think it helps with focus?

He has made strong progress with regard to regulating his emotions, staying on task and following instructions. Since it's a multi faceted approach-Viyarin, wellbutrin, therapy (both individual & social group) and strategies, it's hard to tell if the success we're seeing is directly from Vayarin or the combination of all of the above. We're pleased with his progress, however and so is he, so it can't hurt!

thanks, i believe Vayarin is a good choice.

I have been taking concerta for 5 years now.aderall has known to cause pain in the stomach area, and at that age it is not good because the amount that it is putting out instead of putting a little at a time it does the whole thing.
