Guanfacine

Just starting my 4 yr old on guanfacine and I’m wondering what, if any, are y’all’s experiences with it? Thx in advance 😊

My 7 year old has been taking guanfacine er 2 mg for a few months. I think for him it mostly reduces anxiety which can help him be more open to learning experiences but I don’t think it does much for focus and motivation. Helps a little with hyperactivity. We are looking into Daytrana for focus and motivation. I know your child is too young for stimulants. My son can have a rebound to guanfacine. When med is increasing and decreasing at different times of the day he can actually get more anxious and hyper. But I think this gets better with time. Guanfacine can especially take weeks and even months of continual use to see full effect. It also made him sleepy for about 6 weeks but this should get much better as they adjust to med.

My 9yr old is on guanfacine , for abt one month now , she is tired all,the time, but I have seen improvement, she had mild constipation , but mostly tired all the time , i,hate these med , but the Dr said try her for one more month and see how it's wrking. I hope this helps

My 12 year old started on Guanfacine a few years ago with some improvement seen. Our doctor now has also layered in Concerta, and the 2 meds seems to work very well together. He is on the lowest doses of each. Good luck!

My two children are on guanfacine. We saw the biggest improvement with my daughter, who was 7 years when we tried it. Her biggest issues were aggression and hyperactivity. Guanfacine has helped tremendously! She's also on a stimulant, which the doctor says works great with the guanfacine. Both together have helped her so much! Definitely a little tired at first, but after a couple of weeks, her body adjusted, and it's been very good.

Hello. My son was also recently started on Guanfacine. He is on Focalin during the day too. What stimulant worked well with Guanfacine for you? And howling did it take to see results from Guanfacine? Thank you

Elizabeth is on methylphenidate. Helps her focus, pay attention and concentrate. Good luck to you guys! It can be tricky getting the right meds, right dose, ect.

She is not hyper she just takes it for focusing. That is her issue, I'm just,trying to see how it a wrking not sure if I will keep her on it ,waiting to see how it's wrking

My daughter was on the guanfacine i took her off each time i visit the dr they was checking her heart rate , she was tired all the time falling asleep in class all the time ..i saw a little improvement but i decided to take her off the med i wrk with her one on one ...and now she is doing great in school and at home . . in my opinion in some cases these med does alot more damage than help but thats just my experience every situation is different.. Hope this helps in some way ...
