Is being defiant and having a tantrum common when child with ADHD is asked to do something that s/he does not want to do (otherwise seems to keep emotions in check)?

My 12 year old is the same he can be very sweet but when he doesn’t want to do something stubborn and a tantrum happens there is no talking to him he sees things his way and that’s it and after the tantrum he is always sorry we are seeing a counselor so he and we as a family can better handle his adhd
