Focalin xr dosage change

We have now increased the dose to 30mg.. starting tomorrow. The lower dosages were doing absolutely nothing. I feel bad at times... I start to feel annoyed and upset when it's time for schoolboy be dismissed. It's like I have to hype myself up to deal with another evening of not listening, fighting about homework,etc.. it's mind numbing

Have you considered a adha coach? I just found out about them myself and am highly considering using one. The CHADD website has some resources where you might be able to find one in your area. I'm sure you could just Google it as well. 😊

First of all, do not be rattled by dose changes - over the years, your child may take 2-3 different ADHD meds and may end up on the highest dose. Dosage has nothing to do with age or size and the side effects remain the same, for the most part. Second, if your child is coming home with lots of homework, talk to his teacher about lowering the amount - you may have to get this on his 504 or IEP. There is absolutely no benefit from hours of homework for ADHD kids. I would have asked for no homework for my son in grade school, if I could do it again. The fights in the evening had lasting repercussions for us. If your kid MUST do some homework, consider a small dose of a short-acting ADHD med like Ritalin right around dinner time. Then do homework right after dinner while the medication is active. It should wear off in a few hours. Or you could consider a tutor right after school? Tutors can often get kids to do work without all the arguing, although your child still might need a booster if the morning meds are gone. But most of all, try not to take the homework stuff very seriously. Unless your kid is in high school, it doesn't really matter. Looking back, I can't think of anything good that came out of all the homework wars in our house. And it made our son hate school, and then he hated us because of all the fights.

If lower doses of focalin did NOTHING then maybe Focalin isn't right medicine. My daughter had zero effect from Adderall and then from Concerta- started at low doses, and she felt absolutely nothing. We raised dose, and she still felt nothing. When we tried low dose of Vyvanse she felt something right away but it just didn't last long. That's how I knew Vyvanse was probably right medicine for her. We raised the dosage, and it works very well for her.

I'm thinking you may be right. We are Now doing 30 mg/day and I'm still noticing any chill factor with her.. still impulsive etc..

It's really frustrating to have to go through different meds and dosages to find one that works.
