Vitamins

What are some vitamins that I could be giving my five-year-old son to help him? He already takes a multivitamin with omega-3 and fiber. He takes smarty pants. If you have recommendations for a better multivitamin I would love to hear that also.

Thank you!

I am so overwhelmed by the supplements and vitamins. I am also giving my daughter smartypants but i find the level of b12 really high!!! And the level of omega is way to low. I am reading a book called finally focused by greenblat it gives great suggestions. I highly recommend it. I am still overwhelmed though!!!

I give my kids omega 3 smarty pants too but am searching for another. I Just ordered CALM which has magnesium and others.

I will look at calm. I have also looked at Nordic naturals omega focus junior. It has magnesium and high omega. My daughter is soooo calm though. She moves slowly in all that she does. She is not hyper at all. Very unfocused though. Dreamy all the time. So I question if magnesium would help her. And i am so anxious about to much! And toxicity!!

Oh I’ll research the Nordic. I use smarty pants. Hmmm yeah I don’t know for sure about this but I read that while magnisium calms that calcium alerts for focus.

So I did some research and looks like the omega3 smarty pants amount is a lot more than I thought and in range of what kids should be getting. It differs a little bit from age to age and boys to girls even.

What di you think about the b12 amount? It seems so high to me!

I agree with you I think it seems very high!

I am confused. It’s 67mcg in the smarty pants but what I looked up for my kids ages said 1.2 mcg wha!?

I think I'm going to keep him on the smarty pants omega-3 and fiber but also add a calcium and magnesium supplement. I'm going to research how much B12 a five-year-old should be getting also because that seems extremely high!

Every thing i read said that it doesn’t matter because the extra is just peed out but I still feel anxious about it! Why so much? Why 2000 times the recommendation daily allowance!

Make sure to let your doctor know what vitamins your child is taking. Some vitamins are fat-soluble (so they are stored in your body and too much can be harmful) and other vitamins are water-soluble (so no matter how much you take your body will just use what it needs and will discard or “pee out” the rest - so high amounts can be just a waste of money). It might be useful to ask your doctor to do a blood test to see if your child is actually deficient in something. In my personal experience I did not feel the vitamins/supplements helped very much (my son did not have a vitamin deficiency) so we just went back to a regular children’s vitamin...,, but everyone is different and it’s worth a shot!

Thanks I'm just keeping him on a multivitamin I give him magnesium and calcium too because there isn't any in his multivitamin. He goes to the doctors on Thursday so I will talk more about it with the doctor then.

Psychiatrist told me to stop giving the multivitamin and said just Nordic naturals fish oil between 1,000 and 2,000 mg.

Has anyone on this thread had any break through findings with supplements since we chatted a month or so ago? I am still using smarty pants and just ordered their mineral one. Still overwhelmed by it all!!!
