Me

I am a mother of a 6 year old that has ADHD!! I have been homeschooling him this year bc we just found out he has ADHD and we want to get him settled on the medication and on a schedule for school he starts in the fall. My question being...has any other parent out there been so frustrated sometimes trying to teach their child..but the focus issue gets to the parent? Sonetimes I feel like Im pulli g my hair out but I try to stay calm. I know its not his fault but sometimes I feel guilty letting the fustration get to me sometimes

I have totally been there. It’s only natural to get frustrated. While I didn’t homeschool, I had this issue when trying to get homework done. We had to take MANY mini breaks. This helped him and helped me.

We didnt want to homeschool but we want to make sure we have most things under control or some what...and then when school starts back up...we are going to put him back. He loves school and I love that he does and wants to be back around his friends. But yes...I am going to need to start doing that with him. I have noticed once we have taken a couple of breaks he does focus more. Thank you for your input

To answer your question... Yes! Probably every parent has gotten that frustrated!

My son is 5 and in VPK, he is having a very hard time with focus and behavior. His teachers don't seem to understand and are frustrated also. Which makes it even more frustrating for me. When I help him do school work at home I feel like pulling my hair out too, but sometimes I just walk away for a minute and take some breathes and revisit.

I feel bad for my poor little man! It can't feel good to constantly have someone on your case about sitting still, paying attention, your supposed to be doing this, stop fiddling with that.

It's extremely easy to reach the end of your rope when this happens constantly.

Hang in there, breath, hug your son :-)

This is SO me! He and his teachers are just “over” it. My little boy hates going to school which breaks my heart! Just out of curiosity, is your child on medication?

No, I use vitamins and omega 3 as of now. We have just started the process of getting behavioral therapy. It's a long process apparently lol

Yes he has started adderal... (Sp).. He started out at 5mg now on 10mg...Ican see some improvement but he still gets easily fustrated. It breaks my heart. We also use essential oils at night to help calm him down and melatonin to him get to sleep

Thank you for your response. We began medication yesterday. Because of some of his other issues (mainly sleep problems and anxiety) we are going the route of one of the BP meds to begin with. Will see how it goes!

chadd.thinkific.com/collect... There are several books out there to check into as well "ADHD 101 A Guidebook for Parents" by Greg M. Romaneck and Derek Harkema, "The Explosive Child" by Ross W. Greene and "From Defiance to Cooperation" by John F. Taylor, PH.D. are a few to start. ADDitude magazine is a great resource as are numerous other websites, such as this one. Also several parenting courses such as: Nurturing Heart, Strengthening Families, love and logic, parent management training, trust based relational interventions training etc.
