Sensory toys?

I have heard many different things about sensory toys in the classroom. Some say it helps with maintaining focus and others say it hinders. I have an 11yr old girl with ADHD who prior to middle school did ok but now that the classroom demands more focus and is more lecture based, she is getting lost. I thought a sensory toy may help but I am worried it is just causing more distraction. What have others found?
