Considering private medical for hysterectomy? As long waiting list due to covid backlog

Hi all,

Has anyone else considered or gone private for a hysterectomy? As I am waiting for a hysterectomy and my symptoms are very bad at the moment due to endo and adenomyosis with several fibroids inside the uterus.

I have been advised that there is 100 patients waiting to be seen for simular procedure as mine before me......

So I am now considering private medical for hysterectomy.

Just wanted an overall option or personal experience.

Many thanks

Kind regards

Hi there, I'm so sorry you are suffering so much. I was considering the private route too before having it eventually on the NHS. With me I had huge fibroids (to the point it prevented urination on times) I'd tried everything available but my consultant always seemed to have a reason why i shouldn't have the surgery. I was literally at my wits end, never been so low in my life. I bled everyday heavily, despite the coil, Prostap, etc. Esmya worked for me but they removed the license and wouldn't prescribe more. Thankfully my consultant went off sick to have a new knee and I saw someone new and he agreed immediately. I was originally told it was a four month wait, but that ended up being seven months. I had it done April 2019. I thank my lucky stars everyday that I got it done pre-covid. Honestly, if I hadn't, yes I'd have gone private as mentally I couldn't have gone on much longer. The surgery has totally changed my life. Wishing you all the best whatever you decide.

Just go for it. I had mine done at the Spire hospital 10 weeks ago, had to wait 4 weeks from seeing consultant it cost me £6700. If you're convinced it is what you need it's worth it.

I don't know and right now I am still waiting. However by spring next year will take private medical cover from work and go down that route if I still have not had the opp on the NHS.

I've just had a private lap this week, and told I need a hysterectomy - so will have this done privately as well to avoid the long NHS waiting times.

If you have the opportunity to do so, then I'd recommend it!

I have endo and adeno as well - so really sorry to hear that you're suffering!

X
