IVC Filter problems?

I’ve had an IVC filter in place for six years now and have just had a serious infection in my left leg, which put me in the hospital and I needed surgery on my foot and calf to get rid of infected tissue in my foot and abscess in my calf.

A consultant told me that this was caused by the filter being blocked by clots and causing the infection back down in my leg.

Does anyone know anything about this sort of thing happening, or experienced similar problems? I’m angry that this has happened because I’ve asked my haemotologist if the filter would cause problems… and they always avoided a reply.

Thanks.

Hi Paul.

Wooow I wouldn't expect that to happen, I thought, they would at least keep a eye on something like that happening!

No wonder your angry.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but I'd of expected the hospital to keep a eye out for something like that.

I do hope you get it sorted and get better as quick as possible.

Best wishes

Sorry I have taken a long time to reply! It’s a struggle getting better after having had sepsis and it’s made me very forgetful.

I agree with you that the hospital should have kept an eye out. I have been to clinics every three months for over six years now. They are now avoiding me I think!

I’ll post here again if I get any more info. Thanks for replying… it shows someone does read the posts. Cheers 👍

Don't apologise, sounds as if your going thru the wars with this.I'm glad you've recovered from the sepsis.

I hope each day is better and your on the road to recovery.

Stay safe and good luck.
