Rivaroxaban and glucosamine

The salesgirl in Holland & Barrett sold me a tub of glucosamine for £1 and as my knees are bad again, it would have been rude not to, really - but I forgot to ask whether it was okay to take it with rivaroxaban. Googling produces a slew of different answers, some yea, some nay - so I don't know! Does anybody?

I was told to stop taking glucosamine, sadly, because it does help. I was on Rivaroxaban at the time, now Apixaban. No glucosamine, no fish oils, no turmeric, no NSIADs only paracetamol. I have tried a few days of the first few products, but they did make me feel unwell. Sorry. I have found topical products to be OK, except for any containing Aspirin and similar drugs.

I take Rivaroxaban and Glucosamine and fish oil supplements with no problems. Have been for more than 2 years. I can remember asking the GP about supplements and was never told I couldn't have them. Glucosamine in naturally produced in the body so we are only topping it up, and fish oils would be eaten in food so no idea why they are saying this? However I don't take the Riv and Glucosamine at the same time but Riv and Cod Liver Oil are taken with breakfast; Glucosamine taken with lunch and tea. Have never heard of there being a problem with Rivaroxaban and supplements before; perhaps others may know?

I am glad that you are successful in taking fish oils. The advice was given by a department of Southampton hospital. I did try to start taking them again, but as I have said, they made me feel unwell.

I'm on sintrom - like warfarin. I take collagen and glucosamine/condroitin and omega 3! The first 2 to help stave off the arthritis - seems to be helping - and the latter because I don't like fish much. I decided that if they act as blood thinners my INR would reflect that and they could adjust the sintrom dosage ... as it happens there was little effect.

Unfortunately this doesn't help with your question as I think rivaroxaban acts in a different way (sintrom/warfarin do something to vitamin K)

I asked the haematologist about taking ibuprofen if arthritis gets worse in winter (which is inevitable) - she said it should be OK in moderation but may need more regular monitoring of INR.

I also take stomach protector omeprazol which dates back to pre-DVT when I was taking ibuprofen for bad back. .. so not worried about the stories of internal bleeding.
