After many years on Warfarin with a few unpleasant side-effects, I appear to have fatigue, cold-type symptoms and resulting depression about a year after starting to take Rivaroxoban. This has been the case for four years, I recently had a six month bout of Flu, Shingles and Mouth Ulcers and then to make things worse I developed abdomen pains and I had bleeding when going to the loo.

I am currently off Rivaroxaban after an emergency visit to A&E because of the rectal bleeding. I have a hospital appointment with Anti Coag Clinic and will request that they investigate if my ailments are genuinely related to Rivaroxoban. I read somewhere, (sorry I have no links) that some new medications inc Rivaroxoban can lower immunity!

I hope this helps in some way to insipire you to research and maybe try alternatives.

I’ve never nodded off if I sat down before I started taking Apixaban. Having said that I don’t totally blame the medication as I walked 10.000+ steps yesterday which I haven’t done for a few years. Aching and weakness in my legs have been my main side effects in the last ten months since I began Apixaban.

Yes, aching and leg weakness on Apixaban. Very noticeable early in the day, lesser so later. Walking very limited.

Aching and weakness could be due to the DVT, esp if worse in the morning when you have been immobile all night. Make sure that you are in the correct dose of apixaban.

Thank you for replying, but the DVT was 2 years ago, and the weakness only started after I was transferred to Apixaban from two other anticoagulants. I might ask for the dose of 2.5mg 2xdaily to be reduced to once.

I was diagnosed with subclavian DVT mid February this year and was started on Apixaban 10mg twice daily. I should have only been on this dose for 7 days but the doctor didn't state that on my discharge letter. In the first few weeks of this dose I was very tired and felt exhausted and as time went on i started have breathing problems/ tight throat and chest and was shattered after minimal exertion.

After doing some research and finding out that the the higher dose should only be prescribed for 7 days, I reduced my dose to 5mg twice daily a few weeks ago, and i'm back to pretty much normal again. Have been able to have good workouts and bike rides without issue. This had not been the case when i was on the higher dose.

I put my initial tiredness after my diagnosis down to the DVT itself but on reflection I think it may have been a combination of that and Apixaban. So the length of time you've been on the medication and dose could have a part to play.

Hope this helps.

Hi there, I’ve been on apixaban for a year and it practically knocked me out for the first week. After that I was really fatigued to the extent i could walk ok but anything strenuous felt as though i just didn’t have any stamina and tired quickly (going up hills was a struggle). I knew it must be down to some deficiency so last month I paid for private blood tests and I found my vitamin B9 levels (also known as folate) was rock bottom (well below normal range) as well as vitamin D levels so I’ve been taking good quality supplements and I’m feeling much stronger already and may even start swimming again soon. I reckon the suppression of the factor X in the blood maybe affects folate levels too, so causes anemia. Maybe worth asking your GP to test iron, vit B9, vit B12, vit D and calcium levels. They all seem to interact.

Yes, also one of my symptoms. If I don't force myself to exercise, ie; walking, cycling, then I get tired easily and feel lethargic and fatigued.
