Dvt and pe

Two years ago, I had a dvt behind my knee which resulted in a Pe in both lungs. I have been on Eliquis twice a day ever since. The doctor said I have to take Eliquis for life. Many people have said they have had Pe and dvt again. My doctor said it is highly unlikely that I would get another while on Eliquis. What are your experiences. Should I go for another ultrasound because I have pain behind the knee in my other leg. My legs constantly hurt and are very swollen. He prescribed Neurontin and I have heard terrible side effects with this medicine. Also

Has anyone used a Canadien pharmacy to buy the Eliquis. I live in US and it is very expensive.

No harm in getting it checked out, what's your dosage on Apixaban?

5 mg twice a day.

Your pain may be because you have post thrombotic syndrome. Are there times of the day when your pain is worse or things that aggravate it? Did you wear support stockings when you had the DVT?

My first DVT was in 1994, for the next 20 odd years, I was told by GPs, doctors that I would not get it again; not only I got it again after all these years my DVT also developed in to PE. I am now on Warfarin for life.

However, what strikes me with your message was that you had your DVT behind your knee, I've recently had a lot of pain around my right knee and when I went to my GP she said I could not get DVT in the knee, but I had done my research before and when I told her that I could she immediately changed her statement saying "...oh well, I've never seen it before..." Just because she hasn't seen it before doesn't mean that you can't get it.

So, my advice would be is, do not leave it to the Doctors and get it checked out until you are comfortably assured that you do not have another one and the ones you had are hopefully dissolved...

Thank you for the advice. When I was in the hospital, diagnosed with the Pe the doctor performed a procedure using TPA. They used a catheter through the groin and administered medicine to the lungs that dissolved the blood clots in both my lungs. I worry every day that I will get another Dvt. I am on Eliquis for life. The doctor said I wouldn’t get another one, but so many people on this website said they got other dvt’s and Pe’s while on the medication. My legs are swollen and hurt all the time.

I have to wear compression tights now, alongside apixaban, for life. I’ve got used to them and they stop swelling and are helping with leg pain. I might think differently in summer but at the moment they are helping.
