After reading these posts . I had this from April 11th this year . I had 43 days on Clexafan , now on 2 tablets APIXABAN . My leg , goes up and down, with the swelling . Sometimes, the pain in my chest, is really painful

. I’m still off sick. How do we know, if we are clear from the clots . I’m still waiting to see a Haematologist. Can anyone tell me what they do, or may say . Thank you . I hope everyone , gets better soon . They are not nice

The aftercare is rubbish isn't it as nothing was explained to me except to take the medicine and go away!

As far as I know they don't routinely rescan patients to see if the clots are gone.

They do a kidney function test every so often and full blood counts and you get called in every so often for a review with the nurse.

I had to see the chest clinic as I had a pulmonary embolism in December and that was in April and the specialist was a snob and got my back up but thankfully I was discharged from there and back to my gp for care and when that happened the practice stopped my prescription and had sprung a blood test on me and I had refused and have now changed surgeries as they had shouted at me as well which is most unprofessional so that incident was the last straw!

Best of luck in your recovery!

Thank you . Yes very frightening. I have to email any questions. The doctors get back to you. Appointments are waiting time , up to 6 weeks . I’m grateful we have NHS . Trouble is so many people in our country, not enough staff . Thanks again

To be fair to the a and e staff they were so nice to me when I was there considering the pressures they are under and so were the staff on the ward I was admitted to overnight.

It was that gp surgery that was the problem with their attitude as what they did wasn't really on! I changed surgeries and I feel it's good riddance to bad rubbish leaving them!

On nhs jobs they are always advertising for healthcare staff as no one seems to want to go into those jobs.

Is that 6 weeks waiting time for a gp appointment when it's not an emergency or for the hospital?

When I attended my outpatient appointment back in April I was frightened and I feel that the fact I was frightened manifested itself as a bad attitude towards the healthcare staff there.

First of all, the nurse will do "observations" - weight, blood pressure, temperature, heart rate - and then you will see the haematologist, who will take a detailed history, what your symptoms were, what might have started things off, etc. They will them make recommendations for further treatment, including any tests they may want you to have, and them all if you have any questions. As everyone's mind invariably goes blank at this stage, start writing your questions down now - use an app so you'll have it on your phone on the day. Good luck.

Thank you . I do write things done . I couldn’t believe , how the hospital said I was lucky . Then tell you the doctors will take over from now . Then the doctors , ask you to email them, for any questions. Don’t get me wrong . We are lucky to have the NHS . Trouble is we got so many people in this country. They are under staffed . Thank you once again

I think that I was lucky as there was no question of my being discharged to the GP - I had to see the haematology nurse before I was discharged, and my appointment to see the consultant came through next day. I forget how long I had to wait - only a couple of weeks, I think.
