Arterial thrombosis

Hi

New to this site looking forward to reading through other people’s posts.

I had an arterial thrombosis 18 months ago which was found because of a pain and my foot turning blue this turned out to be a blood clot I then developed another clot in my arm, all on left side, whilst in A&E. Because they don’t know what caused my thrombosis I am on Apixaban for life, short price to pay I think. I was prescribed Rivaroxaban at first but developed a side effect of severe breathlessness so GP changed to Apixaban, which I’m ok on.

Sorry to hear about that. I had a dvt 6 months ago and I am on rivaroxaban and don't find it a problem.

Same thing with me they don't know what caused it but I think it was to do with chronic stress that had built up more than anything else.

It’s all very scary but at least there is treatment out there. I hope you are taking things a little easier now to reduce your stress.

Oh yes I used the experience as a wake up call to make some positive changes as I have lost nearly 4 stone in weight since December, I am doing more exercise and getting up to walk around every hour or so at my sedentary job which I feel contributed and a friend said it had all been brought on by stress and I said how it didn't help.

What had happened in the lead up to the clot was that I had got myself into a right old state about jobs and things and had been desperate to get out as the management wasn't very good and I had pushed myself really hard as I had been determined to get out and had gone too far and I realise this now.

Anyway that manager retired at the end of March and lots of people said it was good riddance when she left and now the new manager is really nice and has sorted me out with a work trial that I had asked for previously but had been told I couldn't have it yet others could which I felt was unfair!

Well done with the weight loss I’m struggling to lose the weight need to lose a similar amount to you. Can I ask how you did it? I have tried slimming world but got myself into a state when the weight didn’t come off. I think we eat quite healthily but the weight stays put. I do get exercise as we have a dog and I do pilates twice a week. At a loss as to what to do next GP not much help either!

I cut down on sweets and fatty foods and fizzy drinks and increased my exercise.

Hi, I had a DVT (a bit different than the Arterial version).. I am on warfarin for life bc I had another event 13 years before while pregnant with my second son. I was just reading your message regarding weight loss. I had lost 80+ lbs in 2015, took me 10 months. I have gained back 18lbs, due to inactivity bc of my recent back injury (last sept) and DVT (last feb.). Sadly I was in the best shape of my life at the time of injury... and now working my way back, starting over.

I highly recommend MyFitnesspal App (there's a website version as well). You can log your food, exercise, water intake and check your macronutrients to see if you have the right balance for a steady/healthy weight loss. I owe my current 62lbs. down to what I had learned from that app...plus there are a community of other weight conscious people there to support you and learn from. I really like it, plus it's completely free! Hope that may help. Sending you best wishes for recovery and good health!
