Oh Natural

I'm just wondering for those who have had clotting episodes as to whether you have come off anticoagulants and used natural ingredients? How did you get on? Have you noticed any differences? Do remain monitored?

If you have had clotting episodes, might it not be risky to come off anticoagulants?

That depends on the reason for the clots Maurice23, provoked clots don’t warrant indefinite thinners, although taking aspirin once off thinners (particularly when going on a long trip) can give people some peace of mind.

I'm not encouraging people to come off anticoagulants. What I'm interested in, is if you've had a clot and come off anticoagulants, have you managed it with natural supplements eg ginger?

Surely if you have finished the recommended duration of treatment with anticoagulants then, by definition, you don't need any further treatment, either with drugs or natural therapies?

perhaps, but then you have to consider your risk factors.

I ask this question mainly because the thought of remaining on blood thinners is not one that I am happy about. There is no financial incentive for testing on natural blood thinners as the drugs companies could not turn a profit for it. So I would like to know how people have got on.

This is something I have been contemplating also.... I hate the idea of feeding my body rat poison (and I am on a huge dose-- 15 & 20mg per day/120mg weekly, is a crazy high dose...they say it's because I'm younger?? idk). I keep wondering what damage the Warfarin is doing in other areas of my body that will show up in the future.... fix one thing, break another. My father was on Warfarin and ended up having a GI bleed...he was taken off and not followed up on properly and then passed from a PE. I am scared crapless over here! I don't know what to do.... and the docs here (USA) are so laid back about me bc I'm under 50 years old). I've gone to a world renown thrombosis specialist in Boston. Scary....

Hope it goes well for you. I'm under 40 and just had my 2nd clot. I'm desperately gutted

I'm not surprised you feel like that being under 40 and having had a second clot. I was fortunate I was over 40 when I had mine.

My ex boyfriend had a clot when he was 28 and he says how you grow to accept things in time when we gave and received support off each other.

I feel for you Nancy . I am on 100 mg , which I do in my tummy . I’m going on tablets next week . I asked if I could take my ginger , Tumeric, genseing. Doctor said no . Also I’m off HRT, which I loved taking, improved my bones , hot flushes, headaches. Also Naproxen, Volteral. I ache all over. My leg is like a tree trunk, and dark mauve . I try and think positive. To be honest, I get scared , when I find my breathing gets bad. I was really fit to April 1st . I no how you feel

Thanks for your reply and sharing your unfortunate experience--I wish you did not have these symptoms.... My INR is still not 100% stable yet (going on since February). It's most frustrating to not be confident enough in my otherwise healthy self to go to the gym and resume working out as I had. I'm starting to accept it and move on... I'm not happy about it, but I am lucky to be here (as are most of us after these occurrences, right). So I can relate, and I understand your frustration with the supplements that you now avoid due to Warfarin use. I lost over 80 lbs in 2015 eating lots of kale and spinach salads, greens and tons of unsweetened green tea (which now I cannot have). I made it to goal weight only to put on 20lbs again these past 7 month during injury. I'll get back to it though. It's commitment, patience, perseverance, positivity, consistency! Just let's not give up and give in to the down side of all of these ailments ok? I am here if you need a chat now and then...to anyone here... I am available to you for support. It means a lot to me to have others who understand the process, the emotional difficulty , etc. on this or similar paths. --Best, Nancy
