A walk to the doctors and back.

5km walk before breakfast, well I say before breakfast but I grabbed a banana and slurped back some water before setting off, I had to be at the doctors to stand out side in the cold for 8am. It is the only way you can see a doctor in my area.

Then there was an hour wait after we got in, I got the form for my blood test, so we shall see if the thyroid levels are behaving. I then made it into a round trip up a hill to come home and have some breakfast.

I do like it when I have done my full step count before breakfast 😀.

Hope you are all enjoying the Spring weather

Yesterday I was due to have an appointment at 4.50pm and didn't get seen until 5.15 and there was a gentleman there who was booked for 4.30 and didn't get seen until 5.15 and he had complained about the wait!

I was sat in the waiting room and an Asian family came in with their 2 kids booked for 5.30 and I asked were they seeing the same doctor I was due to see and they were and I told them she was running late as its no fun sat in a waiting room with bored kids!

The way our surgery is set up we have to wait outside before 8am and the first come first served until 10 am. It is nearly impossible to get an appointment in advance. I’m ok but I do feel for some stood outside when they are obviously too ill to be outside let alone standing in the cold. I suppose the only saving grace is we all get seen on the day we want but you are right the kids find it hard especially if they are poorly. My Dads surgery is different again, I guess we all seem to have to wait somewhere along the line, but I’m not knocking it, I have lived in countries with no free healthcare and am appreciative of the facility. 😀.

They probably do pre bookable appointments you can book in advance if it's not urgent it's a matter of asking as if you don't ask you don't get.

Our surgery does pre bookable ones in the afternoon and the urgent ones in the morning and I usually go for afternoon slots and leave the morning ones for the really poorly ones that need them.

I think that is the way we are supposed to work but in the last three years I have never been able to book an afternoon appointment they have always all gone. ☹️. The only way I got a booked appointment Is when a doctor booked one for me once. Every time I ring up they just say come in at 8 am. The only thing I will say for turning up at 8am there are less missed appointments because everyone is there so that must help them a bit.

I think lots of people miss appointments because they are frightened!

I am frightened of them myself but I tell myself how it's better to face being terrified than not and how I will be proud of myself afterwards.

Doctors can be scary, I’ve have lost count the amount of times I have been sat in the Kidney clinic with MrRfc as his kidneys deteriorated and wanted to run out of there. So I know what you mean. You have every right to feel proud of yourself. Take care. Rfc x

I feel for you Rfc! Here at the village surgery we are very lucky as we can always phone for - and get - appointments on the same day, or the day we ask for. I couldn't get an appointment for love nor money when I lived in Kent! But as you say, there's a bit of a silver lining cos you got all your steps in really early!

I know it is different in each county isn’t it! I do think my breakfast always tastes better if I have gotten my exercise in before it 😀.
