Restarting my journey

Good evening to everyone.

My name's annina, I am an Italian woman who moved to the UK nearly 3 years ago. I used to be fit, eat health food and go to the gym 4-5 times a week. My weight was 58 kgs and I was happy with my body.

I decided then to move and since then I lost my motivation. I feel very homesick sometimes, I miss my family and friends. At work is pretty stressfulness. So I basically stopped eating healthy, stop going to the gym and I am just feeling too tired or too upset to cook something. I just rather order take away or eat junk food. I also started smoking. I gained weight, 75 kg. Sometimes I just feel really lonely.

I just feel really low about how I am now, but I am trying to get better. I joined the gym last week and from today I officially started my journey. I did quite well and I am proud of myself.

It's nice to know that I'm not alone in this community and I'll try to keep my profile updated.

Do you have any suggestions for easy healthy recipes?

Hi annina712 and welcome to the forum - I'm so glad you've found us! I really feel for you, you've been having a rough time. People don't know just how hard it is to live in another country away from family and friends and familiar places. I did it myself 14 years ago at the age of 54 and it was hard. But now you've made the decision to change your lifestyle and get fitter and healthier - well done! Once you settle into a routine of exercise and eating well again it will make you feel so much better! If you search the Web for Slimming World recipes you'll find lots of healthy, slimming meals. Once again, welcome - our lovely members will encourage and support you on your journey!:)

Hi there and welcome. the bet way to start is draw a line under the negative and stick with the new beginning, it always makes things easier if you do that. we will help support and motivate you on your journey anyway we can, and please keep coming back and letting us know how you are doing.

Buon giorno annina712 . Welcome to the forum. I hope you feel a bit happier now you've joined this friendly group.

Everyone here is very supportive and we all have similar ups and downs with our weight ( and with life ! )

Buon giorno elliebath

thanks very much, it means a lot for me 😊.

Writing in English still makes me feel a bit nervous sometimes because everyone can see if I make a mistake, but it's actually a way to learn a new language (the first period I was even scared of ordering food at the restaurant). However I usually meet people who are really nice and they understand me anyway 😂😂😂.

I feel a bit more confident now as I am taking class at my local gym. It took me lots of courage for two reasons: the first was because the instructor speaks English ( of course😂😂😂😂) and I was afraid to not be able to understand him ( music, specific "gym" term, etc); the second reason is because I thought I couldn't make it. I am so glad I was wrong!! The gym staff are really friendly and supportive with everyone, they try to cheer me up and encourage me to continue and even if I can't do an excercise, I just need time. Rome wasn't built in a day 😊😊.

I hope you'll have a nice day x

Welcome to our forum, you've come to the right place.

I love that you went to one of the gym classes. Certainly can be a little more intimidating with the new language, but I think we all feel shy with the 'gym' words if we're new, even if it's in our native language. The last gym class I took I was turning the wrong way and doing the wrong moves, but I had a smile on my face and it was a fun time. I hope you find the same. It's all about who is teaching the class and if they make it fun.

Luckily the gym class is great and the other people don't take it too seriously 😂

Hi, I'm sure it's a good idea joining this forum. Even if you can't afford the gym there are some excercise you can at home (there are video on YouTube, on the NHS website, etc). The Active10 program will be fine, just try to do what you can and it will be better then nothing. I think we all got some days when we are not in the mood but think that tomorrow is another day and you can start again. Looking forward to read your progress :)
