My beginning

Hi I'm Karen and I started my journey on Wednesday. I walk my dog most days for about 2 miles but need to do more exercise to lose the weight. I have recently bought a bike and will hopefully be starting slowly with the riding.

I have about 6 stone to lose so it's not going to be a quick fix but I'm looking forward to the journey and getting to my goal.

Hi Karen - a very warm welcome to our forum! It's really very hard to change your lifestyle, but you have already taken a huge step by joining our little group. Good for you! Here you will be supported every step of the way - every achievement is celebrated, however modest! When I joined up in May this year I could only manage 200 steps - I was given encouragement from everyone here, even from those members who walk in excess of the recommended 10 000 steps daily. I am now up to 2600 steps - modest for many but huge for me! I've also lost 20 lbs, with about another 50 to go! So you are not alone! Stay positive and post often!

Hi Kay50 - thanks for your welcoming message. You are doing really well with your walking, it's good to build it gradually over time isn't it. 20lbs weight loss is great, I can't wait to get to that milestone myself.

I look forward to chatting to you over the coming weeks and I'm sure we can support and encourage each other too.

Thanks

Karen

Oh yes Karen - slow and steady is my mantra! You'll reach your milestones if you stay positive and we'll all celebrate every step with you!

Welcome Karen. We're here to support you along your journey. Nothing is ever a quick fix unfortunately, but on the upside little changes that are relatively easy to add can make a real difference in your fitness. Bike riding is an excellent idea, I wish I could ride one but I never learned properly as a child (and the ground is so far away as an adult). I do enjoy riding the stationary ones when I visit a gym.

Hi runswithdogs, thanks for your message. Practice makes perfect so they say so try the bike again, you never know ow you could be charging around on one in no time.

Hi I’m new too. 2017 has been a tough year and I have really let things slide the last few months. I do exercise regularly but undo all my good work with food and drink. I thought walking might help me get back on track and keep clear of the alcohol! I could do with losing three stone so hopefully we can keep each other going!

Hi there. 2017 wasn't a great year for me either but I'm sure we can keep each other going and we will both get to our goal. Walking is great exercise and I do walk everyday but I feel I need to do more to lose weight easier.

Here's to 2018 and to feeling better as we reach goals along the journey.
