Lidocaine patches???

I had a new appointment with the Pain clinic yesterday (5yrs of chronic pain following a spontaneous Sacral fracture)

The consultant suggested I was on too many meds and prescribed me lidocaine patches? Does anyone have experience of these and do they work?

Really hoping that someone can give me a positive review as I’m scared my pain level will return to the highs that it was before I was prescribed Butrans patches.

Thanks. 💖

I used Butrans patches but also taking Hydrocodone. The patch

Definitely helped. My insurance

Stopped covering and it would cost me over $400 a month so I am no longer wearing them 😔. Do not know how effective they would be

if that is only thing you are taking for pain . Please let me know if

It works for you 😘

Hello Toplady.

I'm sorry that your going through so much.

I have neuropathic pain in my hip and groin area and was prescribed lidocaine as the drs wanted to reduce my painkillers (codine). The lidocaine has been fantastic. I really works well for me and I don't need as much codine so my digestive system functions better too.

I've had severe flares and the patch s haven't taken the pain away completely, but it has been so much more manageable. I was very skeptical but they have really helped me. It took a bit to find the right place on my body to place thi but I'm 90% there in terms of placement.

I really hope they can help you.

Best wishes,

C

Hi! Thanks so much for your comments, I’m glad that they worked for you.

Can I ask please, did they work straight away or do they need to be worn for a few weeks before working? I’ve had no improvement as yet, but we were away last weekend and forgot them so I haven’t had a long period of using them yet? Also I have to get my husband to put them on for me and I think he’s getting fed up of this daily ‘task’. So is it something I should persevere with do you think?

Thanks for responding though, appreciate it xx

Hi Toplady,

I'm sorry to hear they haven't been that beneficial as yet. I found with a little adjustment in the placement I found they worked quite quickly.

I'm not sure if it was because the site of my pain was not as deep in the body, or if I was lucky to respond very well to them.

As long as you are not having bad side effects I think it might be worth trying them for a little longer. I know it can be hard to speak to pain consultants, but maybe you could try to speak with a pain nurse(if possible/available) to see if they had further suggestions on placement of the patches. Apologies as you may have done this already but if not it might be worth a shot.

I really hope they can be of help.

Best wishes
