Help, how do I find an experienced consultant?

Following a total knee replacement in 2011 I have had acute chronic pain ever since. I have had the 'full' NHS treatments and am on fentanyl patches, diazepam & tramadol etc. but the medication is getting less and less effective. I have had a failed dorsal root ganglion stimulator trial and have concluded the only way I will get possible relief is by denervation of the damaged nerve in my knee. I have seen on the internet several successful treatments by either using cryogenics or radio frequency procedures. These are used more frequently for back problems but I can not find an experienced consultant in the UK for my knee treatment. My GP is of little help. Can anyone help?

Sorry Pat. Not in my field of experience. I assume you have done an exensive Internet search. I had nerve derevation on my back but didn't find it lasted longer or was more effective than the steroid injections

In the meantime you could ask for a change of medication or have you had the full experience ?

I have read on my local NHS Trust website that they do them. I live in Kent so I don't know if you live else where if you can access it but surely it is available elsewhere. I randomly stumbled upon it yesterday when reading about the pain service so have you checked your local trust websites to see if they offer it or your nearest specialist centre? Might give you more info than just Googling the knee procedure you want. Maybe try ringing your local pain centre to see if they can guide you in the right direction. Hope this is helpful.
