Anybody tried sertraline?

Hi everyone, I'm new here, this is my first question. Today I have finally admitted to myself that I need meds, got myself some sertraline. Had one and feel a bit odd, was wondering what peoples experiences of it were?

Thank you.

I have taken sertraline for about 5 years now. I can't remember if they made me feel a bit odd at first though. I find them really good and I take 3 x 50 mgs daily. That is quite a lot and you might not need so high a dose. I say carry on taking them. They are not addictive but I found that if I don't take them for a day or two I feel a bit spaced out and giddy. Hope this helps.

Hiya, I've been on sertraline for the last few months as I was on a different medicating for the past few years. I feel like they have finally kicked it and have started helping though! I have tried a few different medications and they have made me throw up nearly everyday, so just be aware that not every tablet is suitable for everyone. Hope they help!

Hi I'm new here too, I've been taking sertraline for about 3 years and have found that they are the only ones that don't make me as "high as a kite" and keep me on an evan keel. I found that that they take about 4-6 weeks to really kick in but after that it's OK. I agree with the other comments that not every medication suits everyone, but if you can stick with them for a while you may find that they suit you.

Hope this helps

My dad has taken sertraline for years it really calms him down. One day without him taking it and he's a different person. He says it helps him through the day as he suffers from ptsd. All the best x

hi, been taking 200mg daily for years, no side effects that i am aware of,, hope you give them a chance, tried many but these really do help me xx

Hi, I've taken sertraline twice, the first time I had no side effects and felt a lot less depressed, not high but just normal, the second time I had awful side effects by the third day and felt so awful I stopped taking them. I think that like all meds the effect depends on what suits you as a personal and also where you are at in terms of the kind of depression. Hope sertraline works for you! Sue

Hey there, Sertraline is designed to help anxiety and depression. I felt awful when I first took my tablet, really dizzy and sick, but now they don't make me feel anything like that. I am definitely better but I am having therapy along side those - I think that's the best combination. I do feel quite 'numb' on them though, they can suppress your feelings and 'balance' you out. I have found this problematic because I don't feel exactly happy, but i'm not having as many awful thoughts and feelings of dread.

I'm having my meds changed in a week because they're not suitable for my problems, so you might have to try a few - I've been on sert for about 7months, not had any major issues.

If you need any more advice then ring up your gp. Other than that there's loads of websites that list the side effects of them, but not everyone gets any or all of them!

good luck on them, even if you don't feel any change they take about 2weeks to a month to kick in. Cx

Hi bewlaybrother. I'm new on here, but not to depression, which I was first diagnosed with 15 years ago. I've been on Sertraline twice. The first time was about 2 years ago and then when I got better last year I thought I'd try going med free for the first time since 1998, but sadly that didn't work for me and I ended up back in crisis and on Sertraline again.

As SSRIs go they offer fewer side effects than most, but as has been said thy don't suit everyone. The biggest problem I've experienced whilst taking them is that I've had a lot of headaches and associated eye pain.

Thankfully, these problems have eased the longer I've been on them. Apart from that the only other real concern I've had is that they seem to make me sweat much more than before.

Worth mentioning too that I did have some very unpleasant feelings coming off them, but that may not happen to everyone who stops taking Sertraline and is less of a problem if you're just switching medication as opposed to stopping.

Anyway, good luck. Hope my comments help some.

I've been taking Sertraline for 9 years. They took 4--5 weeks to work but I had no bad effects when I started taking them. The dose was increased to 150ml a day last year because I was feeling down and a little anxious again. As a result I'm wondering if they lose their efficacy through time. Now I am in tears for most of every morning so I assume the tablets are no longer working as they should. I don't want to increase the dose again but think that's what my doctor would do if I consulted him.Every case is different but these are the facts about mine.

I hope Sertraline helps you.
