No end to it

Another day to drag myself through. Cant bear it. So much shame, remorse and guilt for what depression related drinking has caused. Cant see a way forward. I read many posts on here and many people are suffering terribly but dont turn to drink. Wish I had been stronger.

Hi why not seek treatment for your alcohol problem? Or have you? You already know it's not the answer and is in fact making things worse. Instead of spending so much time and energy beating yourself up, put it to better use by trying to repair things instead.

In other words use your emotions in a positive way, not a negative one. Unless you enjoy feeling so ashamed and guilty? Sometimes people just love to wallow in it as it's an excuse to avoid taking positive action.

Ok you can't change the past but you can change your future. Start working on it. x

I have not had a drink for a few months. Not since my problems at work. Some people may enjoy feeling ashamed, guilty and suicidal. I am not one of them.

That's great Smartbob. Well done to you. I am not saying you are one of them but I did think it might help you by what I said if you were. I know you have a lot going on and I do feel for you, but you can't change the past only the future. Keep posting on here and we will help you all we can as usual. x

I feel for you Bob, the bad feelings will subside in time, it;s not a quick fix but the future is there for good times and happiness, one step at a time mate. Slowly slowly does it. Take care.

You can do this, you're probably sick of hearing that, but i know you can.

Do you have any pets, siblings or children?

You should not be ashamed of yourself no matter what you have done. Everyone makes mistakes. Yes, some mistakes are alot bigger than others but that doesnt make them any less forgivable.

You dont know how other people handle their depression, people self harm, people use drugs, you just use drink.

Why dont you you slowly decrease your alcohol intake? I mean very slowly. 1 less drink per day.

Everyone on this forum is here to help you.

Please message me if you want to talk more

Smart bob Cough a lot is a real honest person and says it as it is, she would never be hard or uncompassionate, so ignore people trying to start Trouble.

Hello

You are doing better than me, although I do drink in moderation and kept an eye on by Wife and GP. My Practice in the past keeps an eye on me and my exact units I kept up this agreement when I moved up country.

I take my hat of to you in keeping dry and I know you will need to watch what you do in the future.

Keep dry

Good Luck

B.

I replied to smartbob jennyjolly and this person who joined today has come in having a right go at me. Trolling is not accepted on here and this has been reported. I am not the aggressor here. x

I'm not a troll but i thought your comment to him was a little harsh. If he's okay with it that's all that matters but I would have felt bad if you said that to me.

in reply to kinikia95

That's fine kinikia and I have no objection to you or others saying that. Honesty is fine and I have no problem with what you are saying.

I do have a problem with others abusing me like this other person is. There is a big difference between being honest and being abusive. Abuse isn't allowed on here as it's against site rules. I have been attacked on here a few times before - always under different alias's, and the latest one only joined today! I recognise what this person says each time as it's roughly the same abuse.

I have put another reply in to Bob and I hope s/he is ok with it now. Thank you for your honesty. x

No didn't think you were

But I know what is like to be on one

And not be able to get off

Suppose I felt for her

Even though she's behaving badly

As she has 'problems'

And although the aggressor, is suffering too

and needs help.

I don't know you either Jaqcuie (strange spelling of your name?) but coughalot2 is one of the most supportive members on here. Your comments are less than kind. "Find another site to ply your grandiose illusions of being important enough to give out crap advice." Perhaps if you had been a member a little longer you would have learned that this is not the way to speak to others who are here to offer support. If you disagree with a comment then report it but please don't be confrontational and insulting, it really isn't necessary and is certainly not conducive to a happy site.

in reply to Toci

Thank you Toci. I appreciate that. x

Hello jaqcuie

We can all look upon some peoples responses on this site in a negative way. coughalot was trying to help with Her suggestions and it is no good beating down anyone who has different ideas regarding others worries and concerns. Drink is a real problem with many people. I am a Northerner who likes a beer and a dram and accept others criticism regarding drink.

We are all here with different ideas and concerns of other peoples conditions.

I feel Her response was heartfelt and understanding, let it stay that way

Hi Smartbob1, you've done great to stop drinking, that's a very positive step that you've taken. I hope you'll try to congratulate yourself for that achievement, rather than continuing to beat yourself up about mistakes you've made in the past? I've made mistakes in the past as well and they've had a huge impact on my life. I can't go back and change those mistakes and I have days where I still beat myself up about it, but doing that doesn't change anything that happened, it only makes me feel more miserable and strengthens my depression. On better days I remember that I have to be kind to myself in order to win my battle with depression and that I can't change anything that happened in the past, but I can try to learn from my mistakes and use that to hopefully build a better future for myself (rather than condemning myself to a life sentence of misery and depression).
