So here I am lying in bed, what's the point of getting up. Nowhere to go, nothing to do, no one to do anything with, another day of sitting about feeling bored, useless and unloved. My one fear if life is coming true and that it growing old alone.

Thats an easier one to resolve. Limit your time sitting around in bed to a maximum. Try to do something, anything, to begin to challenge your fears. If you stop and look at fear it grows and takes on a life of its own. Walk down the street, chat to someone for a minute or two, engage with nature, read a book that you never would normally read. We are all growing old, but nothing is inevitable, unless it is truly what you want to happen or have given up even trying. Little by little....

Peace and well-being to you.

You just described how I feel on most days. Is there somewhere you want to go or something you want to do?

Become a part of something bigger than yourself. Volunteer or even work part time for a cause or group that you believe in. As a volunteer you stay in the driver's seat with more control over your hours and what you do and don't do. Make sure it's something you will have access to being with other people you can make friends with and it WILL happen as long as you are friendly yourself. Be a friend to make friends. It may take a little longer than you'd like, but it will happen.

if the first place you volunteer just isn't right for you, move on to the next place after giving the 1st place a fair trial. You must be around other people to make friends and being around people with at least 1 similar interest brings you together. Staying home won't bring other people to you.

Other possibilities: Join a church and then join one or more of their many groups such as Bible study, other study courses, book club, food for the poor, men's group, outdoor maintenance, sports coaching, youth group mentoring and so forth.

Join a reading group at the library.

Join a computer group or class.

A photography class.

A master gardener's class.

Think: What are you good at? What do you enjoy?

If you can't stir yourself to get going to do any of these things, you need to see your internist or GP regarding probable depression for treatment.

Hi There,

With all that time on your hands get a pen and paper and write down things you'd like to do with that spare time, things that interest you or intrigue you most, it doesn't have to be expensive but something cheap and easy to do. if you're not working and claiming then are there any courses that interest you? when you enquire about courses they will ask you about what you're doing and if you're not working and can prove this then they can recover the cost from the government.

once you've done look on the net and find how you can learn more about these, find people who share your interest and join in with them, ask them to teach you, find books on it from the library. there is so much out there to learn and it costs little to enter into it.

Things that i do are to defeat my boredom and depression:

electric RC cars - joined a club, got 2 rc cars, wound my own powerful electric motors and no restrictions at the club

gardening - everything from worm bin, compost bin, growing veggies, flowers learning soil composition no-till gardening, etc

wood working - hands on learning on the job in my spare time

films - watcing movies

meetup with friends once a month - keeping it regular

cooking - try different recipes from youtube, the recipes are endless and exciting

did 1 year's volunteering at animal rescue centre

just a few ideas how you can make the most of your time. the more you engage into it the more you meet people and when you come to get a job you say i did this and that, volunteering and used your time wisely. it all adds up. i look back didn't regret the money i spent pursuing my interests because i'm here helping others make a difference and so can you :)
