Hi All,

Some days i find that i have no motivation due to being depressed and everything seems pointless.

When you feel like this how do you motivate yourself?

Especially on work days.

Hope you all ok

Hugs

Hi,

When that happens to me I just roll with it and try to get through the day.

If weather permits I take my dog for a walk. There is something calming about that.

...it depends on how I am every day I wake up - sometimes I can get up and feel like I am me, the old me, so I just get on and do things, don't need motivating.... But iv'e just had a few days, really bad days before - even though the sun was shining - I couldn't do anything, nothing could motivate me, I just sat and played a game on the iPad and listened to tv.

How do you motivate yourself tigger?

Hi well when I was working I had no choice but to get up and go to work regardless of how I felt. I found having a set routine helped and I tried not to think or feel. I just operated on automatic. No matter how much I lacked motivation to do other things there is no choice if you want to keep your job so that has to be a priority doesn't it?

The odd days when I couldn't drag myself out of bed and the house I took a duvet day but not usually for more than 4/5 days a year.

Now I am not working I do find the motivation thing difficult. x

Just find something you did during the day that makes you think "yes, I got that done." Could be something tiny, like getting some washing done, or waking up before a certain time. No point comparing to other peoples' achievements, as everyone is different and works at their own pace.

If you're in a bad place, just getting out of bed and making it to work is an achievement in itself.

Take care my friend!

Like coughalot2, I am now off work and find motivation very difficult. (While working, the job was the only thing I could manage.) Most days I "have" to walk the dog (instead of want to), but at least he gets me out. Other than that, I don't accomplish much of anything in the day. It's even come to the point where I'm questioning whether I've become lazy or if it's the depression. But when I can't even unload the dishwasher, I tend to believe it's the depression. I have found, however, that if I do summon any motivation, it's because I've made a specific plan and written it down; sometimes I even have to break the plan into steps and spread it over a few days. At least it's something.

I felt exactly the same, I couldn't tell if I had become Lazy or was Depressed. I came to realise it was depression. Depression make you think your everything else but depressed. Before the depression hit me I was active, I used to dance, swim and run. I was focused and had no aches and pains. My transition into depression happened over night. One day I got up and felt extremely low and I couldn't for the life of me understand what had happened. On those days when you don't accomplish much don't see it as a bad thing. See it as a rest day or self care day in your recovery. Make it a movie day or a day to read or write.Who cares if you sleep all day or the dishwasher isn't emptied, it can wait. Your health cant wait and its priority. baby steps are the best way forward.

Day by Day - is the best way

Week by Week - seems so bleak

Year by Year - Brings nothing but fear.

Sending Hugs
