Hello

What help had you had so far?

I'm sorry you are dealing with depression. I also have had depression since I was a kid. I am now 25. It depends on how severe your depression is. If you are considering suicide then you probably need to see a doctor and get an anti depressant. My depression has not been severe enough to consider suicide, so I do what I can to manage my depression without pills. What helps me is:

-Exercise. Regularly. Like 4-5 days a week.

-socializing/talking to friends and family often. At one point I moved and had no close friends. So I purposely made some new friends. I am happier when I socialize regularly

-practice positive thinking and being grateful for what you have. There is always at least 1-2 things to be grateful for. Even things like having a roof overhead and food to eat.

-eat healthy foods. The way you eat affects how you feel. If we put garbage into our bodies, we won't get a good return in how we feel. Plus your body needs good food to function properly and heal itself.

-recognize what triggers your depression. One of my main triggers is lack of sleep. Or taking on too many things at once, I get overwhelmed and depressed. Find your triggers and try to avoid/manage them better. Sometimes just being aware that depression is coming on can help you be better equipt to handle it. I make sure to stress less, keep up on exercise, call someone I love etc.

I hope that was helpful. But please if you are considering suicide, please seek help. Talk to your doctor and see what your options are.

Best wishes,

Mary

HI there Claire

I'm so sorry you're feeling depressed. I have had very similar thoughts and so possibly know just a little of what you are feeling.

I think joining this forum is one step in the right direction. There are so many people here who are so caring and supportive and helpful. Mary's list is wonderful and full of great ideas & sometimes just doing a tiny little thing can hepl loads.

We all find life very hard going at times and I think until you've read a few of these posts it can feel very lonely indeed. You are not alone. We are all here for eachother.

I've only just joined here as well but have already found great support just from reading posts.

I would definitely go to your GP first off and see where you go from there.

I would possibly also see about learning about mindfulness and compassion. I have found that learning to be nice to myself has been a great help. I know this might sound odd but sometimes I find that I am very hard on myself and that makes me feel worse.

Wishing you all the best and don't forget - you are not alone.

Much love

Ruth
