Disaster today!! Feeling terrible :(

Me, my dad and the kids were down a local park and i took the wee boy out so his auntie (who we bumped into) could have a hold. When we got back to the car i tried to get the car seat off the chassis and it got stuck and the wee boy toppled out flat on his face. I had forgot to strap him back in!! I feel absolutely horrendous. Can't stop crying and it doesnt help when my fiance said that something was due to happen as i've bn a bit laxadaisical lately. As if i dont feel bad enough. Been feeling great lately but this has set me off on a downturn. I'm sitting here spaced out and numb. Feel like such a terrible mum :( x

  • Oh Lesley it was just a mishap; how is the boy now? If he is completely unscathed there is no need to feel guilty and even if he is hurt then it was not something you did on purpose and you need to be kind to yourself about it. You're not a terrible mum; just a normal human being who made one mistake on one occasion. Your fiance was probably just a bit stressed by it and the natural reaction for a lot of people (not saying it's right) is to lash out at who did it and cause blame, but it could just as likely have been him who did it but I bet you would have being more forgiving to him if it was!

Take it easy, don't beat yourself up about it I'm sure you're a great mum Lesley :) X

  • I believe i am a good mum thats why i feel so bad. Not like me to be such an idiot! So angry with myself x

  • Sorry that you had an accident with your child, I hope that there has been no damage to the bairn.

What happened, happened if we learn from an error that was not intentional that is all it takes and some chastisement may come from your Partner as He will be showing concern for the kid. Take this the way it was given and explain that you did not do this on purpose. Accidents do happen.

  • You don't sound like a bad Mum. If you were a bad mother, you wouldn't feel "absolutely horrendous" that this occurred. I'm sure your son is fine. There is no need to feel guilty as you didn't do it deliberately. It was a mistake.

  • It was a genuine mistake. Cant believe i was so stupid. Every time i shut my eyes i see it happening again. Gonna be up all night keeping a wee eye on him x

  • You are a good mum and these things do happen. I hope the wee fella is OK. And to make you smile - and realize we all do daft things - I once went to Asda with my youngest boy aged about 2 (he's now 31) in the trolley in the proper place facing towards me. After doing the shopping I pushed the trolley to the boot of my car, got my keys out and went to put my handbag in the car. I turned round to see the trolley trundling across the car park with my lad still in it!! I thought I had pushed it up to my boot so it couldn't move, but I hadn't. He survived totally none the wiser, but he obviously enjoyed the thrill as he's really in to adrenalin kicks like parachute jump, motor biking on race tracks, bungee jumping etc!! Be kind to yourself too xx

  • Aaww thank you everyone. Been really beating myself up tonight about it but theres nothing i can do now. I just had to vent on here. Thank you for the replies x

  • Oh Lesley I can imagine how awful you are feeling about this

I'm sure your wee boy will be fine

I once had the new mums from our antenatal class round to mine once we all had out babies, I was passing a cup of hot tea to one of the mums .. over a baby who was in their baby seat on the floor .. and spilled some hot tea over the babies head !! I was embarrassed & horrified .. The baby was asleep & stayed asleep but I learned never to do that again & I'm so careful with hot cups

Another time my ex husband shut the car door and jammed my wee girls fingers in the door, straight upto A&E

I'm telling you this just to say that we've all had accidents with our kids .. you have learned from this & you will be very careful from now on

I hope you're ok & your wee son will survive honestly but I know you will feel guilty for a while

    Big Hugs

    Lesley xx

  • Lesley how are you ? It's Ava dreadful day dad said to mum that I'm faking my illness you know our controlling fathers that we have. It's really upset me, why should I have to justify myself to anyone anymore ....

  • Hi Ava I'm sending you a Private Message xx

  • Oh Les of course you feel bad about it! That's because you are such a good mum. Please don't beat yourself up over it - these things happen to the best of mums. It is very hard work being a mother and it sounds like you are doing a really good job. Your fiance doesn't sound very supportive, maybe he could have the kids for a day and see how he gets on! x

  • Thank you everyone. Feeling a lot better today and the wee man is fine apart from being up for a 3.15am feed. Aaarrrggghhhh. Ha ha. So tired lately, dunno if its the sertraline. My fiance has noticed a difference in my mood though which is good x

  • Hi Lesley hope your ok today. Children and accidents are inevitable. Dont

Beat yourself up. Remember too that you are battling Depression

As well as a little a baby . So cut yourself a bit of slack. Your fiancé probably

Got a fright and reactedby snapping at you.

Beautiful day here today, hope you get time to enjoy it too. .

  • Thanks Hannah. Feeling okay but its still playing on my mind.

It was a lovely day here too. Got four loads of washing done and dried and cleaned out all the kitchen drawers. The latter was a task in itself :) hope you are well x
