Health anxiety and depression

My health anxiety is leading to depression. I had a nervous breakdown several years ago and don't want to go there again. I struggle to talk to my doctor and I think my family are fed up of me

Hi

One of the things I feel with my depression and anxiety is the loneliness, and I know I have a loving wife and daughter to support me. I often feel it's my fault and way should they care or bother with someone like me. However they do care and love me for who I am.

I know it is difficult but talk to your family, however hard it may seem. You may cry, you may struggle to explain your self as I do however I have found being honest with family has helped me. Also you have the option of writing how you feel down if that is easier.

They can then support you with your doctor including going with you.

There are so many pressures on us all today, some peoples mental states need a little help to live their lives.

Hi Maisie1..Just to let you know that I am thinking of you today. Is there any chance of you perhaps seeing a different doctor is your practice - someone whom you might feel more comfortable with? I understand why you find it difficult to talk to your GP - seems so many of them are incapable of seeing a troubled human being in front of them and in today's rather hard world, don't have time anymore to help with any mental health needs adequately...unless they can write a quick Rx or stick us on another long waiting list for counselling! That's the way it is, which is sad, especially if you have had a bad experience (like you had) and are anxious about recurrence. Try starting a journal (just as a place to safely offload some feelings) ..and maybe have a long think about why you really find it hard to talk to family members? Try seeing a different doc too and use this space to get some support and ideas. Also check out the area where you love to see of there are any support groups. Sorry things are so hard for you right now but know you are not alone...we are all here.

You do not say what if any treatment you are having, Depression. If you need to talk with someone ask the GP to arrange a CPN appointment as you are not having any support from the family. Generally some times family members do not see the pain you are suffering so you feel that no-one cares.

See your GP then talk with your immediate family you need to get yourself sorted as you could become worse later, and these feelings will eventually get worse.

Remember one in seven of the population have mental health problems, so there is nothing to feel bad about .You may need a course of treatment and then you could get better. Generally, initially you may only need six sessions and that is it.

You can always return to this site and you will get the support you may crave

I have anxiety (GAD) and depression and I used to find it hard to tell my Doctor the truth about my thoughts and feelings, so I wrote it all down and gave him it and this was the best thing I did as I got the best help which was medication and CBT Therapy.

Go for some counselling you can talk to them, and explore why you feel the way you do, or just help with how your feeling.

Quite relaxing, didn't do too well with CBT

I found hypnotherapy good and my therapist made tow cd's for me. A relaxation cd and a therapy cd which hypnotises me. So I can do this when I want at home.I gave my CBT counsellor a copy of the relaxation tape and it sent him to sleep when he listened to it.... pretty darn good.

If you struggle to talk to your GP maybe you should write down how you feel for a week or so before a visit and just let them read it.

I was also advised to write a diary so I could see that good things did happen in my day to day stuff and it wasn't all bad.
