Update on granddaughter

Well at last, Thursday 5th December she is to finally have the tumour removed. Following weeks of test, fluid behind the eyes and on then on the brain they realised the tumour was rapidly growing and is now nearly 5cms.

So glad she has finally had surgery . She certainly seems to have been put through the wringer , how is she now ?

I’m so glad to hear your granddaughter finally has her operation date, the waiting has been hard on you all.

Be prepared for possibly a longer operation than you might expect, I was told mine would be about 8 hrs and it ended up being about 13, and I am now fine, almost completely back to normal 😀 (it was 6 months ago).

Google some good supplements to help nerve recovery, I think that helped me, but who really knows!

Some guided pre-operation meditations can help go into surgery much more relaxed, this is also helpful.

How is your granddaughter?

Hi, she is quite unwell at the moment, being sick all the time, quite confused and agitated. They have given her 2 anti sickness injections. We are hoping when we go in today that the sickness has stopped. She has very slurred speech and unable to swallow as the swallowing function has been affected which we suspect will come back in time. It has all been incredibly traumatic for all concerned but here’s hoping things will slowly improve. Onward and upward as they say.

Hello, I hope your granddaughter is recovering more now, after about 4 days after my operation I started to feel a lot better, although it was very hard to eat and walk actually. It does take a lot of commitment to lead to a good recovery but she has all of you to help her. I needed time away from everyone, except my partner, for the first month or so, and 6 months down the line I am almost fully back to how I was before I started noticing symptoms.

Thank you, it has been such a long week, the sickness is slowly getting better, and when i went yesterday here was a huge difference in her. They had her out of bed in a shower and trying to make tea/coffee and trying being the operative word! She has had a couple of emotional days after realising she couldn’t hold a pencil and write her name. Still unable to eat but if you saw what was being dished up I wouldn’t. he can manage the some some becomes exhausted at the effort. Thank you so much or you support and comments they are so helpful

Thank you, she has been quite poorly but finally turned the corner and looking better, still unable to eat but is walking with help. I do hope all goes well for your husband and you as it is nearly as traumatic for you as for him. This sight has been really important for me, the support is second to none. My good wishes to you both and all the best for Christmas xxx

I've only just seen your conversation trail.

my AN removal surgery was 15 years ago (4cm). My ear drum was sacrificed in order to preserve my trigeminal nerve. I remember the sickness and loss of appetite but it passes. it took me 3 months to feel that I was back to normal albeit with left side deafness, tinnitus and tingling sensations (they are forever aftereffects).

I hope your granddaughter can remain positive. My mum died of cancer before she was the age I was when I had the AN diagnosis (mine took 6 months with an incompetent GP and Neurologist).

At 69 I live a very full and active life. The AN episode has absolutely no effect on my life.

Thank you so much for your kind words, I am pleased to read you are well and leading an active life. She is doing really well, she is now back in her own home. Still has right sided weakness with slight facial paralysis not sure wether that will get better. She has t have 6 monthly MRI scans for 10 years. Your story is positive and gives hope that all will be well. Denise xx
