So frustrated with it all

I had surgery to remove my acoustic neuroma about 7 years ago. I was diagnosed with a regrowth (same exact size as when I initially went in) at my first follow up MRI two years later.

I did quite a bit of research (a little too late) and cannot believe that none of my doctors advise me not to have dental x-rays, as it is believed that this could be the cause of the AN. And, those high-contrast dyes that are used in the MRI's are toxic heavy metals. Please, do some research. I don't have much faith in doctors anymore.

Acoustic neuromas were around long before dental xrays. Are you looking at actual research reports or just the writings of someone who has set themself up as an expert?

Sorry but you are being misled there. Pay no attention to such reports. apart from anything else, X ray are very similar to the Gamma Rays used in the Gamma Knife Machine to CURE ANs very effectively. You are being hoaxed. However, there is some truth in the story about heavy metals used in contrast dyes for MRIs. Gadolinium can adversely affect kidney function in a small number of people. Frankly, I believe that AN are caused by physical head trauma at an early age. I had a motorcycle accident and concussion when I was 22 and the AN at age 58. Others with an AN have told me that they had head injuries for some reason or another. Did you have a head injury? It would be interesting if others posting on this site had some insight into a head injury causing an AN.

Very interesting theory. I had severe concussion after hitting a lorry in a motorcycle crash in 1959 aged 24 and another one on the drag strip when I was 35. My 3 ANs were diagnosed at age 51

I'm not sure I agree with that. I've never had any kind of head injury; however, I developed a AN and just had it removed in March.

I didn't say a head injury was the ONLY cause of an AN, just a probable cause. And you don't need to have a concussion, any head injury would apply.

No, I haven't had any head trauma that I can recall. I also read that the radiation from cell phones can also cause the AN. Coincidentally, it happened to be the side I used when using a cell phone.

I never had a cell phone for years, until maybe the last before my AN detected. Don't think that amount of time would be significant. Only used for work and not that often, nor for any significant time.

Very interesting. I started playing football at a young age and was always taught to lead with my helmet. I truly believe that to this day my neck and back issues are all from football. Now possibly contributed to my an?

A friend of mine attributed his AN to playing American football.

I don't recall nor have ever been informed of any head trauma as a child. My AN was diagnosed at age 59.
