Diagnostic Guidance for the CoaguChek XS self-testing monitor is in development by NICE

This is a very positive step forwards.

For further information or to register as a stakeholder go to

It appears that as a lowly user of the CoaguchekXS I am not eligible to be involved as a 'Stakeholder'!

I've had mine for 7 years with great success, are they not intending to consult those who are already using it?

Unfortunately they do not include patients as single entities but only patient groups.

If you, and anyone else, would like to send your experience, thoughts, comments to ACE by emailing to

anticoagulation@ntlworld.com

we will make sure that as a stakeholder they are included in our submission

well that seems a little pointless in them not accepting individual users as a stakeholder... Perhaps it would exceed their capabilities.... I have had my CoaguChekXS for 2 years and am very pleased that I made the investment... Good luck with the group submission... I will surely email you as requested...

Why don't ACE organise a Coaguchek Users Group. or is there already one?

Hi armitaged

There isn't one at present. What would everyone like to see/get from it? Let us know and we will see what we can do.

NICE may not appear to value patients as "Stakeholders" but they are looking for members of their Working Group including patients with experience as well as clinicians and technocrats. If you want to get involved then why not apply; I have. If I am accepted then I promise to offer lots of opportunities for you to make your views known through me.

I think that we should approach NICE directly as well.

After all we are talking about a life threatening condition that could strike us down at any time.We should take responsibility for our own health and make our concerns known direct to the people who are making decisions about our health and well being.

Further to my comment yesterday I can now inform you that by applying to be on the workgroup and regardless of whether you are accepted or not you will automatically be registered as a "Stakeholder" and invited to their "scoping meeting" which will determine the scope of the workgroup's remit.

Thanks for the suggestion PBirt. Can you give any links as I have not found anything specific with respect to the Working |Group applications.

If you wish to apply to join this workgroup then go to:

nice.org.uk/getinvolved/joi...

and scroll down to the lower chart you will find the CoaguChek XS working group and a link to apply to join it. There is still some time before applications close. Good luck!

The coaguchek is very accurate and essential.

It saves the NHS a lot of money as well as patients lives..
