I know I cant take warfarin while I am pregnant so do I have to see my haematologist when I am planning to get pregnant to prepare alternative treatment, or is it safe to get pregnant and then tell them?

Hello, writing as a patient who is on Warfarin and wanted to have children, I would strongly suggest that you contact your haemotologist before you consider getting pregnant as they will advise you of the treatment options available to assist you through the pregnancy. Warfarin can cross the placenta to the baby and in my situation albeit a few years ago, I was weaned off warfarin, conceived and then weaned back onto warfarin. I had two successful pregnancies and was looked after very well.
