Blessed to the 3rd Degree

I started suffering from shortness of breath the day after my wife and I returned from a trip to Puerto Rico. 3 1/2 hours flight back to the mainland US and 4 hours drive immediately after to make it home may have partly contributed to the PE that was diagnosed 3 days later when I checked in to the nearest clinic. I think God that I set aside my stubbornness when my shortness of breath got worse. Being very active including fitness, will the lung tissue damage that I suffered ever heal? I wonder. right now, I have pain in the left rib cage since my discharge. They told me it will take up to 2 weeks before it completely goes away. True?

Ummm. I have one of my three pulmonary emboli still lodged in my lung. It has never gone away since it first appeared in 1988. I attend one of the country's (UK) leading heart and lung hospitals who have been treating me. It caused me some problems in that I developed late onset asthma. My pulmonologist explained this was because a) there is a gene for asthma in my family anyway and b) the lung reacts to having a foreign body in it. Hopefully you will carry on living an active and happy life as I have. Anne
