I have been on warfarin for a few years and am fine on it and able to remain in range for most of the time. I also had a bad reaction with rivoxaban and had to return to warfarin, which seems to suit me better, although it has to be monitored regularly and does interact with certain other medications and some food.

Thank you for your reply , I'm hoping I'll be ok on it x

Lovely username! Yes, I have been on warfarin for many years now. As my INR became very destabilised recently (reading >8 when attended clinic.) Admitted to hospital where INR reading was 9.8, with very real possibility of a brain bleed .

Currently very destabilised INR reading (80% of the time out of range).

I was trialled with rivoxaban but had a very bad reaction requiring hospitalisation again. Back to warfarin.

My normal warfarin range is quite high as set at three to four, so I usually feel quite cold and lost energy when it is nearer four. If the range falls below two I must also inject clexane in addition to warfarin.

Constant (usually twice a week) visits to INR clinic, a real nuisance but needs must.

I have been told that most patients remain relatively stable and only need to visit INR clinic every six to eight weeks, which is good news.

I really trust that your INR reading remains constant and that you suffer no further problems.

Warm regards,

Juliette

Hello

Thank you for your response I've been so nervous since my pe & having such a bad reaction to rivoxaban made it so much worse , I've been ok with the walfrin this far as it's only been about a week , hope things improve for you , hearing other people's experiences helps so much

Yep, took warfarin for two years due to clot on the brain.....currently taking a break to see if there is any haematological reason for it....but would happily go back on if required to.

Stable ish readings after initial wavering...had to keep diet at a fairly constant vitamin k level ( my vegetarian diet is naturally high in vit k so used higher doses of warfarin than many). No other issues as such... and safer than newer alternatives as is reversible in cases of emergency.

Hope that helps

Hi, I've been on warfarin for 10 years now after having aortic valve replacement ( mechanical) and have no bad effects. With regular inr checks you should be fine but of course it doesn't suit everyone.

It takes a bit to settle down. I can't have broccoli or any dark leafy green veg or cranberry. Some say they can't have grapefruit but I wasn't told that . Hope all goes well with you .

Hi, I can't have cranberry or broccoli and limit any dark leafy greens but other than that no issues at all. I had my mechanical AVR in 2007.You will learn your dos and don'ts and my body tells me if my bloods are high or low.

Read up on grapefruit/warfarin. They say grapefruit increases warfarin thinness? Google it👀

I’ve spoken to my clinic and because I don’t eat grapefruit in large amounts I’m ok. I would ask my anticoagulant clinic before trusting google for anything regarding my health. Thanks for info though .

I have been on warfin since 1987 because of open heart surgeries. They have told me that I will be on it for the rest of my life. I do not like it because everything from excising to what you eat or drink, or what pain reliever you take affects your INR level. I get headaches and dizzy spells from it. Also when you do dental care you bleed a lot. I'm wanting to find a natural alternative
