Hi Barbie13 really feel for you, if there's a common thread on here (apart from clots!) it's people feeling anxious after their first episode of a PE or DVT, it's such a frightening thing to happen to you. It's not surprising that you feel anxious, and 6 weeks isn't really that long. It's good that you're feeling better physically, and the best advice I can give is to try and get your life back to normal as best you can. Sorry I don't have experience of PE or Rivaroxaban to share with you (it was DVT and Warfarin for me), but it was my first ever "real" illness and it was very scary. But I got through it and life is good again. If the anxiety is really getting you down, have you talked to your doctor about it? There are things that can help. If you can share how you feel with a good friend or family member, talking about it can help too. I know everyone on here will know just how you feel and will be rooting for you.

Thank you for your kind words , it's the 2nd time this has happened for me last time I'd just had a baby so thought that could be why , knowing I'm on all this for life is very hard xx

That is tough. When big stuff like this happens, it seems like we have to adjust our image of ourselves - who we think we are, in fact - to include this new thing that has happened and which we cannot control. It's a bit like a bereavement; you have to come to terms with it, and it takes time (they say 2 years when you lose someone). Although I got over my DVT, I lost the sight in an eye less than a year later, and it's taken me quite a while to accept what's happened. I know it's poor comfort when you're at the start of a journey to be told you'll get there in the end, but you will. There are lots of people on here on lifelong medication, who lead very active and even adventurous lives! Keep sharing your experiences, it's a positive thing to do and it helps you and the people who read it.

Thank you so much , it's the crushing anxiety that's the the worst for me , & knowing I'll have to be aware of this for ever , I think they started as a dvt , did you wear stockings? So sorry you have had so much going on with you , I think you are right this has changed me I'm not the same anymore & that's hard , thank you for your positivity xx

in reply to jaxta51

Thank you so much , I keep saying I'll never be the same again & that is really how I feel & life with a constant fear , I'm usually very laid back & relaxed , I feel I took normal life for granted , maybe we all do , I just want to be ok to look after my children, I'm so sorry you have had to deal with so much 😞 Thank you for such kind words x

Hi Barbie. Have you been offered any help with the anxiety. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with a kind supportive therapist could be useful. Relaxation therapy and mindfulness is alo useful. These won't make the medical problems go away but if it helps you get back control you will feel better and the medical problems should reduce. Talk to your GP.

Hope you soon feel better.

DAVE

Hello again. Bit late getting back to you, Ive been to the docs on another matter - old age creeping on, always something! Hope you can soon overcome anxiety. There are of course self help books, cds, calming music but it is better if you can get counselling or join a group. I used to do counselling and I think learning deep relaxation and focusing on gentle breathing is half the battle. From what you have said to others it seems you are strong and perhaps coping with life better than you think.

Take care and good luck.

Dave

I am on the same medication and I get very anxious without reason. All of this since March this year. The anxiety worries me because it is a new experience to me. It has to be the medication, I think.

I'm on Apaxaban, goes by several names, so think it's the same.

Your lucky, only three. I have a thrombosis in my left lower lobe. A large one. Clearly visable on X-rays, I have bi lateral multi focal emboli. That means both lungs in multiple areas. Thankfully I've been able to bring the coughing under control. I need to get more antibiotics as the flem is becoming a problem again. I have to remember to breath properly. I also find that I blank out. If I sit down and close my eyes even for a minute I wake up hours later. I find I get exhausted.

So yes it is a problem and you will get stressed especially if you are on benefits. It seems DWP don't have any idea how debilitating this is. That causes stress. But stay on your Meds. Have regular check ups. Once it's under control you will feel better but it takes time.

Sounds awful for you too hope things improve for you & thank you for your reply xx

I can totally understand how you feeling I had my third dvt last year the anxiety I suffered was terrible.

I didn't take anything for it I got to the point I couldn't trust noone at the hospital because of the constant failures. this went on for 6 months.

PE are so scary luckily my blood clots went into my right thigh every time.

You can get some tablets for anxiety off the gp.

I did take calms a few years ago.

Tracey

It's so scary isn't it? Was you on medication when you got the dvt? & do you wear compression stocking? My doctor has only just told me I should be wearing them , are you ok now dvt & anixty wise?

I asked the pharmacist today if I could take calms with my medication she said no 😞

Thanks for your response

HI

No I wasn't on any anticoagulants when I had my last blood clot. since that last clot I'm on medication for life now.

I was suppose to be given compression stockings when I was diagnosed from my last clot but lots of mistake were made in the hospital I ended up waiting 4 months for them I then developed post thrombotic syndrome the nerve pain damage was horrendous. the stocking are to prevent this happening. I just wear flight socks as I've already got post thrombotic syndrome. the pain started in August and it lasted 6months. it's eased off now but I'm sure the cold weather will cause the pain to be back.

Yesterday I flew to krakow it was only 2hr 20 min flight my leg was really aching. this is my first flight since last August. I was anxious on the flight I got up and walked about.

Take care Emma
