Xeralto Monitoring?

After 3rd DVT I was recently began taking 20 mg Xeralto daily. I was told that I would need to continue this medication basically for life, given a list of symptoms that could indicate problems, and told that follow up visits would not be necessary. Is there no need for monitoring with this medication?

There is not and there is no antidote for it like there is with Warfarin. I feel much safer on Warfarin. There have also been many lawsuits regarding these new anticoagulation drugs. I like to go with the old tested and true methods!

hi! I was diagnosied this year and doctors told me the same as you. I took xeralto 20 mg and the say basically I have to do it for long term or the rest of my life. I dont Know any about warfarin but they told me that it is the way easier to do my life as normal as other people. I am too young and I do not want to be going to the doctor every week so I accepted to take it and I am good. I have to go to revision every year. What did they tell you?

They just told me that I have to be on it for life. I have taken it short term in the past. It was explained to me then that they felt it was a much safer drug than Warfarin, and required less monitoring. I do know people that have family that have been on Warfarin and they have had serious and even fatal bleeding events. Years ago I took heparin (which is more like Warfarin) during pregnancy. I did notice that on that drug I had more bruising, and if I did cut myself I would bleed a lot. I don't seem to have those issues with this medication. Still, I have questions about xeralto. For example, do you I need a card or some med alert on me in case of an accident?

Hi

The NOACS have a significantly reduced risk of internal bleeding in comparison to Warfarin. I would highly recommend that you carry a card or wear a medic alert bracelet, as I do - I am taking Apixaban. Good luck!

I too am only a year older than you do feel i am far to young to be on anticoagulant for the rest of my life but did they identify the root cause of your condition?

Hi mpleay,

i was taking Xeralto myself, the only way you can know is through running an assay against it (as far as i am aware). This was carried out in Switzerland as i had a TIA whist being on Xeralto.

In the end i was evidenced that i was metabolising Xeralto after 3 hours. This proved in fact it was no use for me!

I then started taking Apixaban which i had another incident in April of this year.

Currently i am taking a combination of Warfarin & Aspirin as the NOAC drugs do not seem to work for me.

I have had multiple blood tests both here in Jersey, London and previously Switzerland.

Every test has proved to be negative or normal so as of yesterday all Dr's have decided that it will not be explained as to why i had TIA/Stroke incidents.

I do hope the Xeralto bit at least answers your question.
