Sometimes our perception of reality needs checking. The words we use and believe can have a big impact on our mental and emotional state. When you say “I have no friends” the emphasis is on NO friends, like 0, nobody, not even one. But if you stop right there and check that by looking for exceptions, you can see that you do have friends. Even if it’s not a lot or they’re not too close, it’s still more than none.

The “no friends” detail might seem insignificant or that it’s just an expression, but our minds seem to have a natural tendency to exaggerate, expand and linger on the negative. By having a positive way to counter that initial defeating thought, you can save yourself from what follows those dark thoughts (or at least make them more bearable). A gun doesn’t shoot anything if it isn’t loaded with anything. Similarly, if you can counter and resolve a self-defeating thought early on with honest reflection, optimism, and action to move forward (action is key, like a change in your life to resolve that concern), that’s like the gun being unloaded, you won’t have to worry about the emotional/mental wounds as much because they aren’t inflicted. The key is resolving those damaging thoughts before our minds linger long enough to expand/exaggerate the negativity and drown us with it. Long term solutions come by doing something that prevents the concern from coming up in the first place. In this scenario, if you make sure you always have at least 1 friend, you can never honestly say you have no friends.

Sometimes dark thoughts have truth to them, like with people who aren’t satisfied with their weight for example. It is true that their weight is what it is, but even after coming to that conclusion people can still do something that helps resolve the concern. In the case of weight, there are plenty of methods and such that people can implement to help resolve their concern. The important part for any concern is to act. Overall when you’re in the process of becoming who you want to be, that is one heck of a way to feel good :)

Does this make sense? I hope it helps you, I believe in you, and I hope you feel better soon :)

Hi. Look back 5 years. Were things better or worse then? If you are in school, sometimes the truth is that the people there are not like you and it is hard to make friends. So then, I suppose the plan is to do something outside of school that you enjoy. Even if it's super nerdy - who cares, if you enjoy it. Try doing something creative - and hang in there. Who knows how your life may change in the next 5 years. Take care of yourself, you are ok, even if you are not surrounded by like-minded people right now.
