Tinnitus help

While visiting Hempstead valley shopping centre today (Kent) I walked past Leighton’s opticians and hearing care shop, they had a board outside that said “tinnitus care, book to see a consultant” I was like wow, Ive not seen anywhere that offers help to tinnitus suffers before, maybe they might do the same in other branches if anyone is interested.

That sounds very interesting, I'm guessing you don't have it or you would have been in there like a shot as I would, however I'm going to look them up any help is worthwhile. Thanks

Yes I do have bad T in my left ear, at the moment it’s in its calm phase as mine flares up with my monthly cycle and I just come out from seeing a ent at the hospital about it so it was pointless me going in there that day.

I too have been to ent but it was a waste of time to be honest, mine is constant so I never get a day off from it, I see that all the Leightons are in the south and I am in the North....so if you do go to see them please keep me posted as I'd love to hear if they have any new ideas, good luck with yours and thanks again.

There are plenty of private clinics, even just hearing aid dispensers, up and down the land who offer 'tinnitus management' or 'tinnitus therapy'. You need to be careful to avoid being talked into spending lots of money on magic beans & fairy dust. Whatever they offer, it's unlikely to be much different to the basic principles outlined in most of the BTA's leaflets.

If they offer full fat TRT - tinnitus retraining therapy - that might be a different situation, but that's a long term (for both you and them) program involving sound therapy and ongoing counselling.

If Leighton’s is anything like Specsavers then they’ll only be offering you a free consultation followed by audiogram hearing test which doesn’t pick up on tinnitus sounds only your responses to low, high and medium pitch sounds. At the end of the day all they will offer is fitted hearing aids and supplies of batteries at a price. I’d rather stick to free supplies of both through the NHS. Good luck though!
