Hopefully Nic will come back to you on that one.

My thoughts if you are interested. I doubt ear wax can cause tinnitus. However if mild tinnitus is present and not normally noticed, ear wax can block out ambient sound which normally masks the mild tinnitus such that you may notice it more.

If then that person becomes very worried or obsessed about it, that could start up a fight or flight state which could make the tinnitus yet more noticeable as all the senses are heightened (including hearing!).

Hello - sorry for the delay in getting back to you but I've been away on leave.

If you are looking for general information on tinnitus and ear wax then tinnitus.org.uk/ear-wax is the best place to start.

If you are looking for technical papers on the topic - not that I think there are many - then a Google Scholar search is a good place to start, using tinnitus and ear wax as key words.

Warmest wishes
