I hope you can find some peace dealing with this. I'm going thru the same constant noise mind is three different sounds. Try the soothing water sounds when sleeping also my doc recommended melatonin to sleep its natural and two tablets at bedtime really help you sleep. She said the most important thing for tinnitus is getting good night sleep. Staying calm helps but in life with tinnitus who the hell can be calm. Good luck!
In my case it is definitely work related. I worked in Rosyth naval base for 22 years repairing ships and being in workshop areas. We were given ear defenders though they could not be worn along with a safety helmet so I was often in a hard hat area with no protection for my ears amid noises from caulkers, riveters, drillers and others hammering away in their daily tasks. Ear plugs we’re eventually issued but for people in my generation it was too late as the damage to my hearing had already been done. My hearing loss is only mild yet the tinnitus is loud 4 or 5 days per week. I’m waiting on an audiologist appointment soon when I hope to get more advice and help on what can be done. Sleep is erratic and some nights almost non-existent!
Hello and welcome to the British Tinnitus Association forum. Do feel free to ask any questions, I hope that you find this a helpful and supportive place to help you manage your tinnitus.
Tinnitus can be caused by noise exposure - but it can also come as a result of ageing. If you have been working for 43 years, I hope you're not offended if I say you're not going to be a teenager.

Hi just to let you know, for me it is definitely not work related I’ve not worked in a noisy environment nor have I been around loud music. I blame my medicine it started three to four weeks after the doc put me on them
Hi Bud, can’t say whether it’s one two or all three contributed to my T I’m still on them to this day. My doctor disagrees with me. 1 Ramipril 2 Atenolol 3 Simvastatin . Don’t think it’s the last one though I honestly believe it’s 1 or number 2 cheers
Ok I’m on Ramipril, but have taken it for ages. My t’s only flared up the last couple of months. My GP and hearing therapist both said it’s unlikely that my medication has caused my increase. Tinnitus is a listed side affect for some medication, but it’s not necessarily the medication that’s caused it, but apparently it has to be listed.
Sounds likely I can rule Ramipril out then so I will point the finger a The Atenolol then. Trouble is I’m on it for life think I’ll ask the doctor if there is any alternative. Thanks thanks for that.
