Worried about condition

My problem started 2 weeks ago, it's driving me nuts. I get problems with bad ear wax, so I used Earol drops one night and olive oil next day. Only used 3 sprays from the earol, and one drop from olive oil next day.

Had ears examined by Spect Savers. They said right ear full of wax again, two months after having it shringed at end of December. Left ear had a bit of yellow liquid at back of ear, they thought it could b an infection. My ears have Ben itchy, I stupidly put my finger in to scratch it. Bit worried I've caused irreparable damage to my ear canel.

So I made a Dr's appointment. Almost impossible as the receptionists put me in weeks a head or a month.

Dr said right ear almost clear, apart from a small hole in wax that was in there. Left ear looked a bit red and swollen and yellow stuff at back of ear was probably a trace of olive oil left behind. Have drops with steroid in, hope they won't make the whistling worse.

Whistling is high pitched and I'm worried sick I've caused it so it won't take be treatable Now I'm stuck with this noise which I'm not used to. I try go ignore it, but my sub conciounse won't.

Hello and welcome to the British Tinnitus Association forum. Do feel free to ask any questions, I hope that you find this a helpful and supportive place to help you manage your tinnitus.

Tinnitus does generally get better over time. And even if it doesn’t go away completely, it can get to a level where it isn’t intrusive, and it isn't noticeable - in the same way you probably don’t really notice traffic noise when you walk down the street.

The time tinnitus takes to disappear or reduce in intensity varies from person to person. If it's any reassurance, I've recently had tinnitus caused by an ear wax problem and inflammation to the ear canal and it resolved as soon as the wax was removed and there's been no long term impact.

We have some resources that you might like to check out in addition to our home here:

It's possible that your finger scratched the ear and it's become inflamed. However, it will - like all skin - heal. And don't beat yourself up about it - it happens to us all - I managed to do something similar to my own ear, and all is well now!

That's a relief, sometimes it goes like white noise, or rings annoyinglh like it is now.

Hi my tinnitus started about 7 weeks ago after suffering from a cold. I visited a GP who said that I had a small amount of wax but did not think it was the cause of a tinnitus. A couple of weeks later I was having a bad time and went back last week and saw another GP who said I had quite a bit of wax and prescribed ear drops. Since then the noise has got almost unbearable and am wondering whether the I should carry on with the course. I am getting to the stage where my inside is turning over and am struggling. My GP, who by the way has not seen me before as my doctor has recently retired, has said to come back in 2 weeks if no better and she will refer me to ear department. Your advice would be helpful please.
