Is my T jaw/neck/back related?

Hey all,

Had tinnitus for 2 months, been to ENT and audiologist, all seems good apart from some hearing loss at 6000hz. (then ok, goes back up at 8000hz on right ear, and similar pattern, but not so bad on the left) Tho, i think I may have always had this (Im guessing)

After seeing both ENT and Audiologist I am left with no answer to why my T suddenly appeared and stayed.

I had a trigger-point massage recently, and my T got BETTER! for a couple of days, then it returned.

I noticed today, when I open my mouth really wide (Like I lion) the T goes up in frequency. So it got me thinking back to the time I had a massage, is it all neck/jaw/back muscle related?

I have booked myself in another massage, so ill let you know progress.

Anyone else experienced this? Any links to T and muscles?

What you are describing is a well known phenomenon called somatic tinnitus - ie tinnitus that can be altered by physical movement or touch.

Hey Nic,

Thank you so much for the reply.

I read up the link and other links about Somatic tinnitus, and still am unsure if it is this. (I am hoping it is!)

I have the T in both ears and have some hearing loss, according to the chart, (I dont know if its always been like that tho, as hearing feels the same)

Do you know if its common or possible to have somatic in both ears? also with this information above.

Yes, somatic tinnitus is the term for any tinnitus that is modifiable. And as tinnitus is only perceived to be in the ears (or the head) somatic tinnitus can apply to tinnitus whether it is single sided, in both ears, or not even appearing to be from the ears at all!
