I have had tinnitus 24/7 (never before) since having my left ear syringed 10 months ago by gp nurse. Does anyone know of anyone who has completly recovered from tinnitus who developed it from syringing. can it settle down under these circumstances.? is it worth having the MRI scan my GP is suggesting. any help would be appreciated. many thanks.

Hi Yogibear.

Your question seems very similar, word for word and the writing style the same, that someone asked me yesterday at Tinnitus Talk. If you are the same person please consider the advice that I have given below.

Nothing is certain with tinnitus. Yours could settle down and you habituate and it no longer bothers you. I have known people that got tinnitus by syringing and they eventually habituated. Whether it completely went away I don't know. I think you should have an MRI . I advise you not to use headphones even at low volume. Read my article: Tinnitus, A Personal View, on my started threads.

All the best

Michael

PS: When having your ears syringed or microsuctioned, eardrops should be applied 3 times a day to each ear for 7 to 10 days prior to having the wax removed. This will help prevent problems such as tinnitus developing.

Hi Michael, yes, it was me (same person) , thanks for your kind support,

Kevin

Yes, if an MRI is offered it's worth it just in case its shows anything. Look at a good explanation of what MRI is and if you are happy with that then go ahead.

As I understand Tinnitus it's normally irreparable damage inside the ear (so I'm surprised anything done to the outer ear caused damage though obviously it did). Habituation is your most likely outcome. Over time it becomes less obvious. Other than someone getting temporary ringing after some loud event I don't know of long term sufferers getting cured.

In my case I would say that my worse days are about a quarter as annoying as when it first started several years ago.

yes best have mri scan in case they find anything they can do something if clear then at least you know that

Hi Yogi bear 62 my advice on the number of times you put olive oil is you only need to put olive oil in morning and night time if you flood your ear with olive oil all you are doing is filling your ears with oil I get my ear microsuctioned and my private therapist has on one than more occasions when I get my ears cleaned found oil as well as wax in my ear from me over doing putting to much oil in which I used to put in more often before than I needed too.
