combination hearing aids?

could somebody explain to me how these aids work,where to get them,how much they cost,and if they are any good please?

Hi Whywouldi.

Below is a link the BTA website that explain combination hearing aids and other information that you might find helpful. Normally these devices prescribed by NHS once you are assessed for suitability. I use white noise generators that have built in hearing aids. The hearings aids were disabled via computer, by my Audiologist at the time I was fitted, because I don't have hearing loss.

It doesn't mention the cost, but the good news is that they are now quite widely available on the NHS. Privately you are looking at about £2000 each.

Hello,

I was fitted with a hearing aid for the first time yesterday - this was at the UCH Ear, nose and throat hospital in London. This is a normal hearing aid with the aim to correct hearing loss in my left ear to see if it improves or helps the tinnitus in that ear also - bit strange first of all but I'm hoping once I get used to it that the tinnitus may reduce.

They suggested when I go back in April to see if there is improvement, they may try me with a combination device to see i that helps - what I was wondering is if the combination device is likely to reduce hearing in that ear - but either way if the tinnitus is reduced I will be happy!

hi Neal ,i have been wearing the NHS hearing aids for several years,and they are a great help in reducing T volume, i was hoping the combination device would mask the pulsatile tinnitus in my right ear

Thanks for your reply - It's early days yet for myself as I have only been using the hearing aid for a few days and haven't noticed a reduction in the tinnitus yet, but I intend to stick with it to see what happens. I have noticed an improvement in hearing though which is a result!

Hope you manage to find a way to reduce your pulsating tinnitus.

one hearing aid is no good Neal,you need to wear both to get the T volume down,i know ive been there

That's interesting to know - they seemed to think that the actual hearing loss in my other ear wasn't enough to need a 2nd one. But I will certainly mention this when I go back in April.
