I have never worked in a noisy industry, think it's just one of those things you can get regardless

I am 70 and have had it for 40 years, has got louder over time, no reason for mine at all that I know of. Some days it gets to me, I,ve had a hearing test and it’s ok so what really causes it.

T is usually a symptom of a hearing system damaged in some way. It could be that you have a 'hidden' hearing impairment. Anything above about 8khz is not really needed / used in the modern world apparently, so if your hearing impairment is around there or higher, you wouldn't notice any affect on your hearing and it might not show up on a regular audiogram.

Hello and welcome to the British Tinnitus Association forum FERV. Do feel free to ask any questions, I hope that you find this a helpful and supportive place to help you manage your tinnitus.

We have some resources that you might like to check out in addition to our home here:

tinnitus.org.uk

takeontinnitus.co.uk

Helpline 0800 018 0527 (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm) (outside the UK you can call +44 (0)114 250 9922)

Just a little point on forum etiquette - people don't usually type in capital letters, as that's the online equivalent of shouting! Not a problem this time, just be aware of it (it also makes things a little harder to read)

Warmest wishes

Nic (BTA Communications Manager and Forum Administrator)

Good for you FERV. Tinnitus is a mystery at the best of times and one would think it solvable in comparison to other neurological illnesses

Perhaps one day in the future there will be Bionic Ear transplants available on the NHS and fitted on by robot Audiologists

I guess you and I will be informed we are too old for the op approaching our hundred and fourteenth birthday's.

Best wishes for 2018.
