Finally seem to be having a better time with tinnitus

Hi all,

Well after a few weeks of my tinnitus being louder than usual, (think thats cos I had to take several different anti biotics for various things) my tinnitus has now been more tolerable and wonder if its down to the fact that Ive been using my hearing aide as just a hearing aide and not as sound distraction except on the odd occassion when it has spiked. Have also been taking one tablet a day of vitamin b complex which has been helping with the tiredness and fatigue. So wonder if its a combination of these thats helping me to ignore it more. Either way Im making the most of this time as you never know if its going to last.

On a lighter note, Im off to the isle of wight tomorrow for a much deserved weekend away with my special friends. All in aide of getting into the christmas spirit.

I don't know you being new here myself, but it's always good to hear of anyone having 'calm times' with their T. Mine was antibiotic induced so it's good to hear yours has calmed down after taking antibiotics as I am scared of taking any medication now!😉 Have a good time and look after your ears.

Hi curlew,

Thank you for your reply and Im sorry to hear your T was drug induced. Mine was not caused by the anti biotics but stress when my mother passed away 2 and a half years ago.

I have over that time had a lot of ups and downs with Tinnitus but recently things have been easier except when i was having to take a particular anti biotic which made it worse. However i also had to have a different one for another problem which did not affect it at all. Seems a strange thing really but i now know that if in the future i need anti biotics I will have to tell the Doc to check first before prescribing them and hopefully then it won't have an impact on my tinnitus. You should try this as GP's have access to a drug book where they can check on side effects and give you the ones that will treat your problem but have less impact on tinnitus. Hope this helps. Hello Lesley.

Have a lovely time away, the Isle of Wight is one of my favourite visits, and I'm glad to read that your T is more tolerable let's hope it continues no reason why it shouldn't

Thanks David, had a lovely time with my friends. We stayed in Ryde which is a lovely town. Did a lot of shopping and chatting and had evening meal in a place called Olivo, which was well worth it. Also tried Bogetta where they have 100 Gins for you to try. Didnt try every single one as would have passed out....

Only thing is my calves are aching cos of all the walking up and down the hill on the high street !!!

My T didnt entirely behave itself despite feeling relaxed but had some egg nog on the Catamaran going over and think thats what made it spike so will have to refrain from drinking this in the future.

Will go back again next December but we'll be trying sandown instead.

IOW is definetly a relaxing place and everyone is very friendly so can see why you like it. To think that i only live 20 mins across the water, you'd think 'd go over more often but Im sorry to say I dont do this. However one of my friends is thinking of moving over there so will have to visit.

Hi Leslie ! I was pleased to read about your theory on Antibiotics making your Tinnitus more manageable, I have been taking "Acidophilus " friendly bacteria tablets for some months and noticed a slight difference with my T volume. This bacteria is the only type that can breach the stomach acid barrier with startling results. I may add here, I'm taking Acidophilus for a digestive disorder and not specifically for Tinnitus, yet the 20 Billion live bacteria once a day seems to have quieten things down.

Curiously, scientific research has discovered a link between Bowel and Brain in that Brain matter has been found to exist in the Bowel which explains why bad Bacteria can influence the Brain as well as Body.

So I'm not surprised at your finding your T level is lower. It stands to reason you feeling better at all the bad guys in your gut getting zapped.

Finally, a fact, there is enough Brain matter in the human gut equal to that of a domestic cat.

Best Wishes.

Hi starshine,

Thanks for sharing your theory on brain and bowel interaction. Its certainly something to consider. When my mother passed away suddenly 2 and a half years ago my digestive system went haywire brought on by the grief i was experiencing and then 3 months after she died my tinnitus started and Ive always assumed it was that that caused it but if your theory is right it could be a conributing factor. Im not taking anti biotics though to treat T. As GPs wouldnt allow it because of the dangers of drug resistants developing. But do take vitamin B complex tablets.

Hope you will keep me posted with your journey of taking friendly bacteria tablets.

Thanks for your reply, I was sorry to hear about your mother and how it must have impacted your health. I took a few days off from taking my Acidophilus friendly Bacteria and was surprised to find sluggish digestion and bloating after eating meals. As a result I'm back on the supplements and feel all the better for it.

I'm sure having one or more health issues other than Tinnitus creates the ingredients for Habituation to happen quicker than if one has only Tinnitus. Of course, it,is down to concentration and whatever one concentrates on grows on you.

Again thanks for your reply and glad to hear your feeling better.

Best Wishes.

Hi Lesley nice to hear your tinnitus is down I think. The longer you have tinnitus you learn to cope, better with it I have, had T for some 5 plus years, and the first 2 years were the worse I think getting away and a change of scenery can be uplifting my tinnitus has, be bearable and at times, hardly noticable .David X
